Steal Her Style — Gwyneth Paltrow

Love her or hate her, "Consciously Uncoupled" Gwyneth Paltrow has a great sense of style!

Steal Her Style — Gwyneth Paltrow

It’s easy for celebs to look glam all the time—they have stylists and beauty teams. Why not benefit from their access to experts and take inspiration from their looks? In my Steal Her Style series, I turn the spotlight on a Celeb Yummy Mummy and analyze the key elements behind her style. I pick an outfit and recreate it with affordable pieces currently available in stores. If you have a Steal Her Style request for a future post, please leave it in the comment section below!

Gwyneth Paltrow has been in the spotlight recently following her decision to "consciously uncouple." But whether you love her (I can't help it — I love her) or find her pretentious — she definitely knows how to dress! She's often pictured looking polished in sleek, classic pieces, although looking back, she wasn't always this fashionable...

(Pictured with Christina Applegate & Luke Wilson). I know these were taken in 2001, but those clunky sandals were never a cute look! (I'm in no place to judge...I'm worried that I may have owned a pair myself!)

Over the years, Gwyneth has learned what works for her, with a stronger focus on fit and proportion. She has even developed a casual style uniform — blazers, skinny jeans, booties and a scarf. She favors a classic colour palatte: black, navy, grey, and white. She usually finishes her outfit with her favorite necklaces — a Sevan Bicakci padlock paired with a vintage horn pendant.

Beauty Tips From Fashion Week

A sneak peek into the fashion, clothes and makeup during World Mastercard Fashion Week

by: Zeba Khan

Beauty Tips From Fashion Week

Downtown Toronto was buzzing with activity last week due to Fall/Winter 2014 World Mastercard Fashion Week. Usually it's hard to get into the mindset of Fall clothing at the start of Spring, but thanks to the unseasonably cold and drizzly weather, it was easy to get excited about looking at warm and cozy clothing.

I had the opportunity to go behind the scenes with Redken and Maybelline to view hair and makeup backstage, before heading to the front to watch the Joe Fresh Runway show.

Grace Lee (Maybelline's Lead Makeup Artist) explained that the Joe Fresh look was inspired by the Polar Vortex — think flushed, windburnt cheeks paired with standout lashes. Volum' Express Rocket mascara was layered with Volum' Express Colossal Pumped Up mascara for striking lashes. Dream Bouncy Blush was worked into the cheeks, temples and even down the bridge of the nose to provide a 'fresh from the cold outdoors' look, while Too Cool Colour Tattoo was used liberally to add highlights and shimmer on the face. Lips got the nude treatment, with lipsticks from Color Sensational The Buffs line.

Jorge Joao (Redken's Lead Stylist) showed us how to create the perfect sideswept braid — guaranteed to look pretty even under hats. He prepped the model's hair with Pillow Proof Blowdry, the sprayed with Guts 10 from root to ends to create a volumized "2nd day after washing" look. He gathered the hair into a loose side pony and secured it with an elastic. He braided the ponytail and fastened a second elastic at the end. He finished by gently messing up the hair near the face, then cutting off the first elastic — resulting in a boho braid with a natural feel.

After getting all the insider tips backstage on how to recreate the models' looks, I couldn't wait to see what clothes they would be wearing! I'm a huge fan of Joe Fresh clothes because they are affordable and prefect for everyday wear - and so easily accessible because they're sold by Loblaws — they completely fit my lifestyle!

For this collection, Joe Mimran, Joe Fresh's Creative Director was inspired by "Canada's mountains, wilderness and outdoor elements, particularly against the backdrop of this winter's polar vortex that we've all gone through together."

MAJOR TRENDS: Olive, Orange, Animal & Nature Prints

MY FAVORITE LOOKS: Sleek blazers, faux fur, tailored pants, and this gorgeous blue dress!
