Add a little spring to your walls

Pastel Photography

Spring is finally here....hooray! Pastels really say spring to me and no one captures this better than Finnish photographer, Krista Palmu. I recently came across her work when I was sourcing for a Cityline segment. I think you will agree that her photographs, found on her site JoyHey, are pretty pastel goodness and would add a little happy to any wall.

Don't they make you happy?! You can find these and more in the JoyHey store here.

Jane's Dining Room

ask the stylist

Jane's Dining Room

I am really excited to be launching a new series on my blog called, 'Ask the Stylist.' Each month, I will respond to a design dilemma from one of you. You provide the question, along with photos and other details, and I will put together a design plan right here on my blog.

This first design dilemma comes from Jane. She wants new drapery, art and lighting for her dining room. The space is a blank slate with neutral-ish green chairs and dark maple table.

Jane's main floor is also quite neutral. She wanted to inject some colour in the room. Here is what I came up with:

I used this gorgeous 26 x 34 art print, Laura, by Michelle Armas as inspiration. I love the colour and sense of movement. This piece would hang at the head of the table in place of the existing mirror.

I would replace the window treatments with lined drapes in this gorgeous Tonic Living fabric. Having larger panels framing the window will give a fuller more formal look to the room.

The Hoyne Pendant Lamp from Crate and Barrel will look amazing over the dining room table.

Giving the walls a fresh coat of paint in Benjamin Moore Hancock Green will complete the look.

It really is so simple to make a room feel fresh and new with the addition of pattern and colour!

Do you have a design dilemma? Send me an email to sarah @ yummymummyclub.ca with the subject line: Ask The Stylist and you may just appear in a post soon!

DIY Art For Kids

easy {and free} number art display

DIY Art For Kids

My neighbour was in his garage this spring organizing some items to donate when I saw this:

She was in need of a little TLC, the frame had some slight damage and the canvas was dented in one spot but I knew I could do something so I asked to take her home. My husband just loves when I do this and then store items without any idea how or when I will DIY them.

Several months later, I needed ideas for a segment about art for children's rooms. I found these adorable free {!} number printables online on a site called The Handmade Home:

I thought I would use this painting as the background for these mini pieces of art.

The first step was to prime the entire thing. I have to admit, I was a little sad to see her go.

I then added a couple of coats of white paint to the frame and three coats of this soft orange on the canvas:

I printed the numbers on heavy cardstock. I ordered them online from Staples. Then I tacked each one in place. I am really happy with how it turned out....a simple sweet piece for a young child's room:

Quite the transformation, don't you think? You can find more creative art ideas for kids' rooms here
