6 Parenting Truths: The Christmas Files

It's Not Always Holly and Jolly

6 Parenting Truths: The Christmas Files

Christmas mess

No matter how well-intentioned you are when you start out, your last three gifts will look like they were wrapped by a drunken frat boy.

99% of parents want to leave the school Christmas concert as soon as their child has performed.

Baileys in your Christmas morning coffee seems like a good idea until about 11:00am when you want to go back to bed.

You will always hide one gift so well that you won’t find it until July.

Due to over excitement/lack of sleep/too much sugar your child has a 75% chance of having a complete meltdown on Christmas day. Accept it and take heed in the fact that you’re not the only one out there experiencing it.

You will learn the true meaning of patience waiting for your kids to fall asleep on Christmas Eve.

Turbo Fast = Turbo Fun

Coming To Netflix December 24th

Turbo Fast = Turbo Fun

A Review Of Turbo FAST on Netflix

Netflix is known for its original series. I know I’m not the only one who spent a week glued to her computer watching episode after episode of Orange Is The New Black.

Now, on December 24th, Netflix is launching its first-ever original series for kids, Turbo FAST.

Based on the movie Turbo that was released earlier this year, Turbo FAST centres around Turbo and his snail crew as they go on adventures and take on crazy challengers.

I was offered the chance to see a preview of the show on Netflix but who wants to read an adult’s opinion of a kid’s show, right? Just because I like something, it doesn’t mean my kids will. So I enlisted expert help–my two sons–to watch and tell me what they thought. Both were super excited because we’re still doing the no tech or television and it meant that they would get to watch t.v. on a weeknight.

Here’s what they had to say:

Older Son: I liked that it was fast paced with lots of funny jokes and you didn’t have to watch the movie to understand what was going on.

Younger Son: It was exciting and I like that it had a good message.

They both liked the fart jokes.

When I asked if Turbo FAST was something they will choose to watch when it comes out on Netflix, they both said yes. Very loudly.

And from a mother’s point of view? I like that it was a non-violent, fun show that both my boys enjoyed despite the difference in their ages.

Many of you are looking for things to do with your kids over the holidays so why not whip up some speedy snacks and have a family night watching Turbo FAST. And to make it fun you can try to guess what my favourite line from the show was–as in it made me snort laugh.

p.s. I feel it’s only fair to tell you we’ve always been a big fan of snails around here.

Ross Petty’s The Little Mermaid

The Show That Will Hook You In

Ross Petty’s The Little Mermaid

Ahoy, mateys! Are you feeling crabby because winter break is almost here, and you don’t know what to do with the kids for two weeks? It’s time to get schooled in family fun!

A few weeks ago, I went to see Ross Petty’s The Little Mermaid with a bunch of my fellow YMCers. I was mostly excited to go because (a) I had never been to see a Ross Petty show, and (b) YMC is run by a great group of peeps—getting to hang out with them live and in person is nothing short of awesometastic.

As expected, eating dinner with some of my favourite people and their kids was great. I knew The Little Mermaid would be funny because my friend Kathy Buckworth, who is one of the funniest people I know, goes with her family to see the show every year as part of their family tradition. What I was not expecting was my need to wipe the mascara dripping down my face from laughing so hard. And not just me—my kids were, too. Faith, one of the Project Managers at YMC, said her favourite part of the show was listening to my two kids laugh. My boys still talk about the “What Does The Fox Say” number.

Are you worried about taking little ones to the theatre? I so get that. I lived through the cringe-worthy stage of trying to get my kids to be quiet in a theatre. But there's no need to worry with a Ross Petty show. It’s very interactive with the actors encouraging the audience to boo the bad guy every time he comes onstage. They want the kids to be loud!

My boys loved the show so much that as we were walking up the aisle to leave the theatre, my older son turned to me and asked, “Mom, how much are tickets? I want to see this again.”

So if it a-piers you have some extra time over the holidays and are looking for something the whole family will enjoy, water you waiting for? Take them to The Little Mermaid. It’s the must-sea show with sole.

p.s. YMC has a special discount code for our members. You can find out the dates and details right over here.

p.p.s. I was given my tickets for free but as a family we have decided that the Ross Petty show will now become a part of our annual holiday traditions.
