RECALL: Pottery Barn Kids Bed Canopy

Canopy May Collapse

RECALL: Pottery Barn Kids Bed Canopy

Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) and Williams Sonoma Inc. have jointly recalled the canopy which forms part of the Madeline Bedroom Collection, as the connections of the posts to the top canopy rails may come apart, causing a fall hazard.

Williams-Sonoma has received a total of 33 reports of incidents of the canopy collapsing, with one customer reporting an injury that required stitches and several others reporting minor cuts, bruises and/or bumps.

Customers are advised to immediately remove the canopy from the bed and contact Pottery Barn Kids at 1-855-662-4114 to schedule a free repair.

From December 2003 to August 2011, approximately, 230 units of the products were sold in Canada and 7,700 in the United States.

RECALL: "Bugaboo Bee" Stroller

Fall Hazard

RECALL: "Bugaboo Bee" Stroller

Joint Recall with Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC), and Bugaboo Americas.

This recall involves the "Bugaboo Bee" stroller for newborns and toddlers up to 17 kg (37.5 lbs) with the serial numbers ranging from 160101110100051 to 160101113801999. While the stroller is in motion, the front swivel wheels may suddenly lock up, causing the stroller to topple and possible fall to the infant/toddler.

Although Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries, four incidents have been reported in the U.S. where the stroller's swivel wheels locked and the stroller tipped over, causing minor injuries.

Customers are advised to stop using the recalled strollers and contact the place of purchase, or Bugaboo directly, for a swivel wheel replacement.

For more information, customers may contact Bugaboo by phone at 1-800-460-2922 or by email or by visiting Bugaboo's website.

From February 2011 to September 2011, approximately 257 units of the recalled strollers were sold in Canada, and approximately 7,000 in the U.S.

Cops Turn to YouTube to Solve Crime

Toronto police are going digital to help solve a case. Following the Boxing Day abduction and sexual assault of a four-year-old girl in North York, cops posted a 1:44-minute video on YouTube asking for tip offs from the public.

The girl was captured from a home in the Bathurst and Wilson area home, then sexually assaulted in a nearby field. Her Connecticut family was visiting relatives on Charleswood Drive. They noticed she was missing in the wee hours, then venturing outside, found her in a neighbour’s yard across the street.

A man was spotted as he fled the scene. He is described as "between 19 and 20 with a medium build, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-10 and was at time of the crime wearing a blue jacket sweatshirt, dark sweatpants or jeans and a striped, blue-toned toque."

Although it doesn't go into much detail about the crime, the brief video appealing for information has already had more than 296 hits.

Toronto police are increasingly turning to social media sites to help with their investigations. Past videos include a theft at a Scarborough furniture store and an assault in a downtown condo lobby.

Kudos to T.O. officers for their astute use of technology in the ongoing battle against crime.
