As I mentioned in my last post, I love decorating for the holidays. Halloween is a tricky one for me though. I tried decorating with traditional Halloween colours last year and, although it was pretty, it didn't really work with my style.
I am not a huge fan of fall colours but I do love decorating for the season and for the holidays. I also really believe that adding natural, seasonal elements as décor is a great, inexpensive way to freshen the look of a space. I just want it all to be pretty.
Orange and black don’t work with the colours in my home, so I took traditional fall items {pumpkins} and with a little time and paint, transformed them to suit my style.
There is nothing better to do on a cold day than curl up on the couch with a warm blanket and a good book, a great movie, or if I am really honest, a trashy reality TV show. I am rarely on the couch without a throw blanket, even in the summer. Not only are they comfy and warm, throw blankets are a simple and inexpensive way to introduce texture, pattern and colour to a space.

I hate this time of year. It’s not that I hate fall so much as I hate the end of summer. But, I do love any opportunity to refresh the décor in my home. The soft yellows, reds and oranges of the changing leaves are perfect for adding some colour to your space. Not sure how to bring autumn colours inside? I have watched Cityline forever and have always loved the décor and DIY segments. So the fact that I was on there today totally blows my mind. I can’t even tell you how great it feels to be given such an amazing opportunity to do something I am so passionate about. This has been a dream of mine forever. Honestly, forever. And now it was happening, which was beyond exciting but also totally nerve wracking!

I spent much of the summer {so far} in Nova Scotia at my mom’s house by the ocean. Now that we are back home, I am missing the fresh air, the carefree days at the beach.

I took advantage of my boys’ nap time the other afternoon and went back to the shop where I found my first Nova Scotia treasures to take another look around and I found some more vintage loveliness. The prices are out of this world amazing.
I can’t believe that today marks two weeks into my holiday in Nova Scotia. We have had so much fun celebrating milestones, playing at the beach and, of course, shopping.

Last week my husband and I got away overnight to celebrate our anniversary at White Point Beach Resort, where we got married five years ago. It was a short but sweet escape.

I am a very nostalgic person. For me things are not just things. They have meaning, they tell a story. They hold memories. I have so many items from my childhood; I have my boys’ first outfits and their second and their third. But all of these things are tucked away in labelled bins in my basement. I want them out where they make me smile.
