In all dryers, the lint trap screen not only collects lint, but also collects the fabric softener.
To see if your screen is fabric-free, run it under water. If the water stays on top or little drips through, wash it with warm water and soap to clean. Then run the water until you see it run through freely.
This also saves on the chance of fire due to excess lint being stuck on the screen. Happy drying!
