The “How to Train Your Dragon” Trilogy Ended, But Adventure Still Awaits!

The trilogy of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise has come to an end, but it's going out with a bang!

A team of amazing individuals from around the world gathered together in Norway ready for an adventure recently, and I was among them. We weren’t exactly sure what was ahead of us, but the jet lag was not going to get in the way of our excitement.

What I found on the hunt for dragons in Norway was the magic of Flam - a small Norwegian town with a population of 450 people but over a million tourists coming through on a yearly basis. Each morning when I woke up and looked out my window there was a cruise ship docked with excited tourists streaming into town to see all that Flam had to offer.

I strapped on my hiking boots, grabbed my parka (because yes, the mountains are cold!) and off I went. The views from the Stegastein viewpoint were like nothing I have ever seen before, and the drive back down the winding mountain had me closing my eyes here and there! It didn’t take long for me to understand why we had all travelled to Norway to celebrate Toothless, Hiccup and his friends - this is a beautiful, stunning landscape and country.

The trip to the Flam Zipline was aboard the Flamsbana train up the mountain. There's nothing like a train ride up a mountain to get the momentum built for a zipline 305 metres off the ground and 1380 metres long! Did I mention it is a little chilly up in the mountains? This zipline was really great, because you are in a sitting in a comfortable harness which allows you to enjoy the view all around you on your way down.

My experience at the Viking Valley Village is a moment that will be with me forever.  We were welcomed with music and a greeting from their Chief that brought me to tears. We made our way through the village throwing axes, shooting arrows, baking bread, and making hooks with the blacksmith. These people welcomed us into their homes, showing us how they lived and sharing their personal stories.

Our friends from Viking Valley then took us to the White Caves where we found the Hidden World and Toothless!

Being able to talk with Dean DeBlois  (the film's Director) and Jay Baruchel (Hiccup) was a super fun interview! Put three Canadians in a room and it is bound to be a good time! I was assured that How To Train Your Dragon, the Hidden World is in fact the last movie of the trilogy and and last time that we will see Hiccup and Toothless, but both Dean and Jay say they are happy with how this movie ended the story.  xxxxxxxxx

The How To Train Your Dragon series is full of important and poignant lessons for children and adults. No spoilers here, but the ending is happy for humans and dragons alike! The Blu-Ray is available for purchase on May 21st – so make a date with your family for the perfect movie night.

I hear that despite his name, Toothless loves popcorn.
