When I tell my grandkids bedtime stories I always make the child the hero or heroine of my fairy tale. This time I decided to tell one about my daughter, Erica Ehm (who will always be one of my heroines).
Once upon a time a long, long time ago in a far away land there lived a Queen called @yummymummyclub. She had two children and a handsome Husband-King called @LeagueofRock. @Yummymummyclub was a very honest Queen and she proclaimed to her YummyMummy followers that being a mother was the hardest job in the world. She told them that a true Yummy Mummy struggles to find the impossible balance between the single wench she used to be and the wife and mother she's become.
Queen @yummymummyclub was also a wise queen. She sat in her castle and thought and thought and thought. Then one day she said, 'By the powers invested in me, I have an idea.'
@YummyMummy sent messengers across the land to tell of the YummyMummyClub.ca - a place where true women could speak of the rites of Mummydom, and where they could read the glorious manuscripts named 'blogs' to stimulate their big brains. Each Mummy in the kingdom was invited to join.
This was a new and wonderful idea and the women from all corners of the great kingdom rejoiced and began to follow the teachings of @yummymummyclub. But how could they communicate with each other? Queen @yummymummyclub had an idea. Why not use the ancient way of communication called 'Twitter'? And they did and they gave each other secret names like @sharondv @earnestgirl @partymummy and @graceannounce. They spoke in code and used hash tags and tweets and #FollowFridays.
One day @yummymummyclub heard whispers of a 15 K marathon with the name of, A Midsummer Night's Run that boasted of a tent where one could imbibe beer. Could she be so bold? She sent out many tweets across the land asking her followers to begin training in secrecy. And they responded in code tweets; each one beginning their messages with the sign #TEAMYM. Each one offering a resounding, 'YES!'
Every evening for two moons (after they washed their husbands' cloaks and cooked soups in their cauldrons) the women left the walled city and ran across drawbridges, through valleys and across mountains. They were filled with a great dream -- of victory and of beer.
And so, on the twenty-second day of the eighth month of the year two thousand and nine, these valiant mummy warriors came together at the old inn called Delta Chelsea in the even older town of Toronto. @JillAPowers handed each a piece of female finery to be worn identifying each woman as a member of the secret running clan, #TEAMYM. Each woman vowed their allegiance to #TEAMYM by burning the motto 'yummymummy' on to their biceps. They were brave. They did not cry. And ... history was made that day.
In the archives of the oldest library in the land there are ancient texts documenting the glorious victory of the YummyMummies who ran that 15K race. Click here to view the ancient scrolls containing images of that time. All images were created by the wise old hag of the clan, @journeywoman.

I love it! What a great event it was! That @yummymummyclub is a brilliant queen.

Evelyn Hannon is 69 years old and a grandmother. And not just any grandmother. She's the pesky kind that carries pictures of her four delicious grandchildren, Josh, Jessie, Lotus and Beckett to share with everyone she meets. She's also the mother of two grown daughters. And not just any daughters. She's the mom who gave birth to Erica Ehm of Yummy Mummy Club fame and Leslie Ehm, her equally dynamic sister.
Evelyn thinks being a grandmother is really like being a mother except now there's more people to care for and love. And there are loads of perks to the job. There's nothing like your daughter saying, 'Thanks mom, I needed that' when you offer to do crafts with the grandkiddies so she can go to a movie. And is there a better gift than a hug from a little one who says, 'Grandma, I love you.'
P.S. In her other life, Evelyn is the award-winning writer and editor of journeywoman.com, a travel website especially for women. In that capacity she explores the world solo...but she always remembers to send postcards home.
Stay tuned as Evelyn tackles this thing called 'life from a grandmother's point of view'.
