It’s funny how life goes. Your life can change so quickly; in a minute, in an hour or in a day! Everything that once was is no longer. You’ve morphed!
On November 8, 1984 I morphed into a ‘Yummy Mummy’. My career as a fashion designer in Toronto came to an end. I stopped creating dresses and started creating a family.
By May 29, 1990 I had three original designs, two boys and one girl. I was now a full-fledged member of “The Yummy Mummy Club” and I was busy! On September 23, 2005 I morphed again. This time I was a ‘Yummy Mummy’ living out her life-long dream. I had completed my first consultation with my first client. All of a sudden I was back at it; back in the world of fashion. No longer was I designing dresses, instead I was designing an affordable and comfortable place for ‘real-life women’ to come for ‘real-life fashion’ advice.
The name of my newest creation was Fashion Assist. My first client was Linda, a 41-year-old Homemaker and busy mom of two who continued to wear oversized, baggy clothes even after an impressive weight loss. I encouraged her to shed her oversized clothes and discover her new self. Linda broke free from her cocoon of big and baggy clothes and morphed into a beautiful ‘Madame Butterfly’. She stopped living and dressing as the bigger girl she once was and celebrated the slimmer Linda that she had become.
When I asked Linda what the highlight of her experience with Fashion Assist was, she said, “My new metallic high-heeled sandals. I love them so much I don’t want to take them off. I feel so good in them! If I was a little girl I’d sleep with them on; that’s how much I love them!”
After being a Yummy Mummy for 25 years I’ve learned a few things. First, to quote Erica Ehm, “Being a Yummy Mummy is the toughest job in the world.” Second, as a Yummy Mummy, your needs seem to fall to the bottom of the priority list. All of a sudden it seems “ok” to stop caring about how you look and to let your clothes become the definition of ‘non-style’ or ‘drab’- not good. Third, Yummy Mummies need to be encouraged to think about themselves every day, even if it is only for a moment.
Their closets need to be a place of joy where they can find clothes they love and feel good in, just like Linda! Something as simple as changing what you wear can change how you feel; especially for us mummies.
At Fashion Assist, I help Yummy Mummies find clothes they love and feel good in. I teach them how to look and dress their best each and every day. I help make mummies a little yummier
