The day before Valentine’s Day, Chevrolet Canada unveiled the new 2014 Corvette Stingray. At the moment of reveal, this 7th generation Corvette first roared with presence when Canadian race car driver Ron Fellows revved up the engine, and settled into a nice purr. To me, there's nothing like getting excited just by the sound of a car.
Chevrolet’s so excited that it gave this Corvette the iconic Stingray badge (1967 'Vette Stingray shown below).
When I got up close with the Corvette, I wasn’t disappointed. Totally sleek, totally sexy. Awesome chiseled front end and bonus points for a gorgeous rear end that commands appreciation. Stylish exterior vents are functional too, improving aerodynamics and vehicle handling.
Ever been a passenger with someone who couldn’t shift smoothly? No more shaking like a ragdoll with this 7-speed manual transmission. It has “…intelligent sensors [that] anticipate gear selections and match engine speed for smooth transitions during both upshifts and downshifts.”
This 6.2L V8 engine boasts an estimated 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque, with Variable Valve Timing to increase horsepower or torque when you need it. The Active Fuel Management technology gives the flexibility to deactivate 4 cylinders when you’re cruising and brings back all 8 cylinders with one touch of the gas pedal. It’s anticipated to be the most fuel-efficient Corvette ever.
The 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe goes on sale in the third quarter of 2013.
