Colour Yourself Summery: Colour Combos To Try This Season

Brighten Up This Summer By Adding Colour To Your Wardrobe

Even if your favourite colour pairing is black with black (I'm with you, really I am!), you can't deny that bright colours are a refreshing addition to an otherwise neutral outfit. Summer is really the perfect opportunity to experiment with colour in your wardrobe—with bright sandals and colourful prints, you can completely change your look with one perfectly placed pop of colour.

I'm naturally drawn to warm camels and earthy browns and classic white and black pieces, so I make a conscious effort to pick up colourful and printed pieces when I'm shopping. Mix your colours with neutral pieces to tone them down, or throw two brights together for a big impact—it's totally up to you!

Here are a few of my favourite colour combinations for summer (and the ways I'm wearing them!):

PINK AND BLUE

My muted blue and white pencil skirt gets dressed up with a shot of bubblegum pink in the blazer, while my pink skinny trousers and cobalt blouse are a bit more unexpected. Also, do I really stand like that? Ha!

Skirt: Old Navy Clearance (Similar skirt, $30)
Trousers: Gap, under $20 on sale
Blouse: Reitman's, $30
Birkenstock Arizona Sandal: Softmoc, $100

YELLOW AND NAVY

Yellow and navy is one of my all-time favourite combinations, and not just because yellow is my favourite colour! My yellow pleated dress is work-appropriate with a navy blazer, while my yellow, white and navy Maxi dress is an outfit all by itself. I like to roll the hem of my yellow trousers and pair them my gingham button-down and leopard-print belt!

Trousers - $60
Maxi Dress (Alternate, Top Shop, $36)

CORAL AND MINT

Colours that are opposite one another on the colour wheel pair beautifully together, like coral and mint. I don't necessarily love mint or turquoise on meespecially near my facebut I do love the colour! Aside from mint jeans, I only own mint-coloured accesories like rings, necklaces, shoes, and lots of nail polish.

Dress: Pseudio (Similar, $28)

NEON AND NEUTRALS

I really love neonif neon was a person, I would marry it. I love my neon blazer with my blue and white skirt for an unexpected pop of colour, and the leopard print blouse and neon shorts combo was a last-minute, pre-salon, thrown-together outfit that I wound up loving! Pair neons with neutral(ish) pieces, but don't be afraid to play with patterns!

WHITE WITH WHITE, CREAM, OR BLUSH

So, I know I just said I love neon, but I think I might love white even more. I love how crisp a pair of white skinnies can be, and also how breezy a white dress feels against a tan. If you're not prone to spills, white on white is unexpected and chic for a day in the office or a night out. The subtle difference between cream and white highlights the warmth of cream, and we all know how I feel about blush with pretty well anything.

BLACK AND WHITE

Just because I'm preaching colour doesn't mean I'm against a classic black-and-white palette! I love black and white on the beach (obviously), but I especially love it for a night out! Plus, black and white will go with everything. EVERYTHING.
