May Is Food Allergy Awareness Month

10 Ways You Can Help Spread the Word

by: Alex Thom
May is Food Allergy Awareness Month

It's finally May, and that means it's springtime, and also Food Allergy Awareness Month (FAAM)!

Here are ten ways you can help spread awareness about allergies:

Talk about allergies! Spread the word, speak up about allergies, and help others understand how serious food allergies can be.

Teach others how to properly use an epinephrine auto-injector, like EpiPen® or Allerject/Auvi-Q.

Attend Anaphylaxis Canada's 7th Annual Community Conference about managing food alleriges. I wish I could go, but it's not in the cards for me this year. Maybe next year!

Talk to educators about FAAM, and help them educate students about the importance of understanding food allergies.

Make a donation to Anaphylaxis Canada, to support their continuing education and support of programs helping children and adults with severe allergies.

Cheer for the Blue Jays in a peanut- and nut-reduced zone at their May 25th game! (I'm going to see if we can attend the game, and then we'll be sure to post pics in the Facebook group supporting this awesome cause!)

Respect people's food allergies, and ask them what it's like to live with them

Join a support community for people who deal with food allergies to find great resources, ideas for meals, and more!

Read through this fabulous gallery about people's experiences dealing with allergies, helpful information about handling food allergies, and other handy info.

Share my blog with anyone you know who deals with food allergies. (Of course!)
