Spring Fashion Must-Haves

The Best Picks For When The Weather Turns Warm

Judging by the weather out there, it seems like spring is a long way off but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a jump start on the season’s fashions! All my favourite stores are swapping out the deep, rich shades of fall and winter with the brights and pastels that scream SPRINGTIME. It might not be in the air just yet, but spring is definitely in stores and on my mind.

The looks on the spring fashion runways featured some super-trendy pieces (like crop tops and wide-leg trousers), but there were loads of pieces we’ve seen before and — most importantly — pieces that never go out of style.

If you’re thinking of sprucing up your spring wardrobe, I’ve got six picks I know you’ll love!

  • The uber-flattering, super-chic trench coat is an absolute spring-style staple. Opt for neutral colours for the ultimate in versatility or go for fun patterns and bright colours if you want a conversation-starter. A belted trench will cinch your waist, and waterproof styles will keep you cute and dry in the spring air. Grab a great pair of wellies and a cute umbrella too, because April showers are a thing you guys.
  • A boxy blouse is going to be the most-worn item in your wardrobe this spring, and fall, and winter and ALWAYS. Dressier than a tee but less stuffy than a button-down blouse, a boxy-blouse or “shift blouse” is figure flattering and easy to wear. Throw it on over your favourite cropped skinnies or tuck it into a pencil skirt, you can cover it with a blazer and dress it up or down as needed. A cream blouse will go with anything, but prepare to see lots in pastels and grab one in every colour because that is how awesome they are.
  • Treat your toes to a cute pair of pointy-toed flats in a neutral shade like bone or sand to elongate your legs without heels. Pair them with cuffed skinnies and that trench coat and you’ll be channeling Audrey Hepburn while you’re running (or Zombie-walking) to Starbucks on Saturday morning.
  • Floral ANYTHING because spring and flowers are synonymous. If you’re not a huge print-wearer, consider picking up a floral bib-necklace or a scarf with a subtle print. If you’re ready to go big or go home, why not grab a floral pencil skirt or maxi dress? Swoon!
  • A bit less expensive than all new clothes, why not grab some bright nail polishes and wear the colours of spring on your fingers and toes? Radiant Orchid might be the colour of 2014, but spring fashion trends showed a lot of pastels, and grassy greens are a fun alternative to blues for your pedicure this spring.
  • Need to edge-up that floral piece? Grab a cropped moto jacket and rejoice knowing they’re here to stay! Black will always, always be chic but I’m in luuuurve with my pleather moto jacket in a creamy, butterscotch-y beige.
