Meeting the MummiesAugust 24, 2009
This past weekend, some of the Yummy Mummies got together for a great event called A Midsummer’s Night Run. It was a tonne of fun and the funds raised went to a great cause; Sick Kids Hospital.
I started writing a blog about the event. It was going to be about how we met up and who ran the race and how they did with some details here and there about how our relationships evolved and how much fun it was to meet all of the yummy mummies for the first time. I changed my mind. Why? Because my favourite part of the event was getting to know these wonderful ladies.

What I would like to do for you, is give you a little behind the scenes on the Yummy bloggers that you read all the time. Of course I am going to start with:
Although Erica and I have never met, we have spoken via email, twitter and the phone. I already knew that she was a nice person, but I wasn’t prepared for how nice she would be. I, of course, recognized her as soon as I saw her, but I was surprised that she recognized me right away. She greeted me with a hug and told me that whenever she thought of me, she remembered the first time we had tweeted about American Idol. How cool is that? She is truly an amazing person and so down to earth. I loved getting to know her. After the event, while we were sitting chatting over drinks, she talked candidly about her life and her childhood. She discussed her beliefs and her business openly and without pretense. She really is a yummy mummy, and to her mom’s delight she is yummy inside and out.
Evelyn is Erica’s mom, and she is every bit as interesting as Erica, if not more so. Sorry Erica but I’m sure that you will be that interesting when you are a grandmother too. I can see that the yummy is inherited.
I had the chance to sit and get to know Evelyn while the other ladies were out running, as she and I were part of the cheerleading squad. She is warm and inviting and she makes you want to tell her your life story. I loved learning about her grandchildren and her travels, but most of all I loved hearing her words of advice. I don’t even know that she knew she was giving advice; I was just taking it.
Let me give you “The Inside Scoop” on Sharon. She is totally yummy! I have never met anyone who can look as good at the end of a 15 k as they did at the beginning. She has the most beautiful skin. She should be in one of those “Don’t hate me cause I’m beautiful” commercials. You couldn’t hate even if you wanted to though. She so bright and happy, and she’s even funnier in person. I was disappointed that she skipped out early and I wasn’t able to get to know her better, but we are making plans to remedy that soon.
The Energizer Mummy is aptly named! She is full of energy and all smiles. She bounced and waved along the race course and continued smiling all the way to the beer tent. I loved the vibe she brought to the group. She really is a ball of energy and it’s such a positive energy. You can’t help but be happy when talking to her! I was thrilled when someone said that we looked like sisters.
Party mummy started out by removing some clothing, so we had to tell her it wasn’t that kind of party. Okay, so she was changing her top for the race, but she did so with traffic streaming by! “Go Party Mummy!” I heard people yelling from passing cars.
Okay, no really, she is a party. She is also very sweet. She has the cutest smile ever and it makes you want to smile too.
She and Sharon left together, so I am eagerly awaiting the day that we are going to get together and get to know one another. You’re on that, right Party Mummy?
Let me start by saying, Candace is much smaller in real life! Candace would have made me feel like a giant if she didn’t have such a big personality. She gives a sense that there is nothing this lady can’t do, and ya know what? I believe that!
She seems like the sort of person that sets a goal and doesn’t stop until she achieves it. Don’t get me wrong, she’s not all business. She was a lot of fun to hang out with too.
I have to be honest; I thought that Bookalicious was going to be shy and reserved. I guessed I had envisioned her as a total book worm. It’s hard to know what people will be like just based on their picture and their blog. I knew she wrote fabulous book reviews, but I didn’t know that she was a sassy woman with a wicked smile.
She could be one of those women that works in the library as a cover for her covert missions as a spy.
I’m going to write a book about it. Wanda, will you review it?
If anyone is going to be “Scene and Heard” it will be Kelli Daisy. She is uproariously funny and outgoing. She has a laugh that is contagious and she talks passionately about everything! Don’t get her started on Jon and Kate, and for goodness sake, don’t tell her it’s not Jon’s fault!! (Of course it’s Jon’s fault)
I can tell that Kelli is the life of any party. She’s just plain fun.
There were several other women who took part as runners, walkers and cheerleaders, and I was delighted to meet all of them. Twitter will never be the same now that I can put a personality to those tweets. I was thrilled to be a part of such a terrific event and honored to be amongst such wonderful women.
Here’s to new friendship. I can’t wait to see you all again.
Next time, maybe I’ll get to meet the other Yummy Mummies who were not in attendance and then I can dish about them.
