Go Your Own Way

The Benefits Of Taking A Solo Vacation

There comes a time in every mother’s life when she needs a vacation.  Desperately.

The trouble with vacations is that your family usually goes with you—and your “vacation” is spent making sure all of their needs and desires are met. (Which makes it different from your everyday life how?)  If you really want to get away from it all, I recommend getting away from them all.  So find someone trustworthy to watch the kids and escape to a revitalizing solo vacation in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Why Vegas?  The tourism industry is hurting, which means fantastic hotel deals for visitors.  But even during a strong economy, you get more bang for your buck on Vegas hotel rooms.  The city is accustomed to catering to solo leisure and business travelers, so you won’t feel out of place.  Other tourists are friendly, so if you want to meet people, you can.  It’s easy to get to, with warm, sunny weather and a wide variety of activities that allows you to customize your vacation with everything from golf and gambling to helicopter tours and spectacular shows.

Imagine what it would be like to:

Sun yourself by the tropical pool at the Mirage, while sipping a pina colada and reading that great book that’s been gathering dust on your nightstand for months. Or get a hot stone massage at the luxurious QUA Baths & Spa at Caesar’s Palace. (You’ll want to spend all day there.)

Stroll through the Dior, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, and Prada boutiques at the Bellagio.  Then head over to Caesar’s Forum Shops or the Fashion Show Mall to do some hard-core shopping.

Check out all the free attractions, like the Bellagio conservatory and dancing fountains, the Mirage volcano, and the Venetian’s singing gondoliers.

Splurge on an exquisite dinner at Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris Hotel or Todd English’s Olives at the Bellagio.  Ask for a table overlooking the Bellagio Fountains at either restaurant.

Make new friends at the craps or roulette table or see a show like Phantom of the Opera at the Venetian, Mystere at Treasure Island, or comedienne Rita Rudner at Harrahs.  After the show, head over to the Rio Hotel off-Strip for a nightcap and live music at the Voodoo Lounge and enjoy the breathtaking view of the Strip at night.

Take advantage of Las Vegas’s versatility to create your perfect vacation.  Remember: A solo getaway is a woman’s greatest gift to herself--and to her family. Once you’ve recharged your batteries by taking care of your own needs, you’ll be better able to handle any of life’s challenges.
