RECALL POSTED June 15, 2017:
From the Associated Press (AP): Fiat Chrysler is recalling 297,000 minivans in the U.S. and Canada because the driver's front air bag may inflate unexpectedly. Currently, 8 potentially related minor injuries have been reported, but there are no accidents related to the defect.
Fiat Chrysler said in a statement that "Wiring may chafe against pieces of steering-wheel trim, potentially causing a short-circuit. This may lead to a second short-circuit that is potentially capable of producing inadvertent deployment of the driver-side front air bag."
According to CBS News, approximately 88,000 of the total recalled vehicles are in Canada.
Fiat Chrysler is reaching out to customers via mail to let them know when to schedule getting their minivan fixed, which will be a free service, starting July 28.
Fiat Chrysler has also said that the similar Town & Country minivan is not affected and part of the recall, as it has different trim on the steering wheel.
