Gifts That Give Back

The season of giving is quickly approaching and like all gift giving holidays I am faced with the same feeling.  In our family (we celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah) the holidays consist of tons of food and tons of presents. The children get overwhelmed with all of their goodies and are left in a sea of random toys, while the adults are inundated with items they didn’t even know they needed.  It all becomes so excessive.

This year I have a plan!  I am only giving gifts that give back.  As a fashionista I am bound to continue giving gifts that reflect my love of all things stylish, and with a little research I can also help out those in need.

For my hubby Darren, the ultimate running show addict, I chose the Converse United bamboo sneakers. A percentage of the proceeds will go to the (RED) campaign which helps fight AIDS in Africa.

My little princess Evan is sure to love these beaded animals by monkeybiz. Monkeybiz supplies richly colored glass beads to women in the townships of Cape Town. The women are paid for each piece they produce; and since they work from home, can look after their families and avoid transportation costs.

For my product-obsessed mom I chose Kiehls/Rxart KAWS body cream. RxArt, a non-profit organization, is committed to fostering artistic expression and awareness through the challenging yet rewarding task of engaging young patients in contemporary art in pediatric hospitals.

For my party-animal sister-in-law I chose a beaded evening bag from Mar-y-sol which provides market readiness training workshops to artisan groups and small businesses in Madagascar and Kenya.

And last but not least, my fashion partner in crime, my bff, I chose this adorable painted t-shirt from Marni. All proceeds will be distributed to schools and hospitals in developing countries to help support educational and developmental projects for kids.

I couldn’t be happier with my new holiday motto which is “give gifts that keep on giving”.

Happy holidays!
