Giving Back... Making the World a Better Place.
by Erica Ehm

"I did something nice or her so she has to do something nice for me!" pouted my daughter's five-year-old friend. My daughter looked at me confused.
My little Jessie understands we give because it feels good. Because it's the right thing to do. Because it makes the world a better place.
"Pay it forward. Do Unto Others. Think About the Children Less Fortunate Than Us." That's what she hears at home.
I had a chance to "give back" when
Worldvision invited me to visit Malawi to see the work they do. I spent five days traveling dusty dirt roads to tiny African villages tucked away beside mountains and deserts. I met families decimated by aids and poverty. Children barely turned teenagers responsible for siblings with no means of support. Grandparents with many mouths to feed but no food. Mothers dying. Children with bloated tummies crying. Life is brittle. And brutal.
My need for more stuff dried up in Malawi. We have enough. It's time to give back.
