Extra Curricular Activities

What activities do your children participate in?  How do you select what activities they will take? Do you have a maximum number of allowed activities at a time?

For a 2 year old...

My daughter just turned two - so there aren't a ton of extra curricular activities for kids this  age that fit our schedule. I think almost all of them are parent and tot as well. We've just enrolled our daughter in a gymnastics class (parent and tot) that I'm really excited about. We used to go to a music class as well, but they're pretty pricey.

I'm looking forward to her turning 3 so that we can do more - like dance, or sports and more advanced gymnastics classes.

Variety is the spice of life!

We try different things.  When we find something our daughter's enjoy, we usually go back to it eventually.  We always do swimming, at least two or three sessions a year.  Gymnastics has been popular as has soccer.  Skating, not so much.  I choose activities based on what I think my daughter will enjoy, what I've heard good things about and what will catch her interest quickly.  I have stayed away from dance thus far as I don't think my daughter has the patience/attention span for it yet.  She'll be six next year, so I think we'll give it a try then.

Our younger daughter has just tagged along and done what her big sister does.  Next year when big sister is in school all day, I'll be able to choose activities specifically for her.

We've done swimming, skating,

We've done swimming, skating, soccer, tae kwon do, dance and gymnastics (depending what kid you look at).  I used to chose based on what I thought each woudl enjoy.

Now at 8, my son pretty much plays soccer all year long and needs to get back into swimming. He loves soccer the best and chose it over skating this year.

My 5 year old is doing gymnastics and then soccer for the outdoor season only. That was also his choice. Again, we nee dto get back into swimming.

Sometimes I wish they could do more but it's hard to find the time and money to commit to all these things. Now I am hoping they will stick to something (at least for a while) and refine their skill in it. But I am always willing to try something new if they ask and even suggest it to them if I think they would love it.
