With the first two, ultrasounds were only done if deemed necessary by the doc (yes, I am THAT old). And with the third, I wanted to know since it I already had a boy and a girl but my doc thought he had a sense of humour and said "Nah, you can wait!" Nice...lol...
With # 1 they wouldn't tell us. We lived in an area where abortions of female fetusus was very high.
# 2 they couldn't tell us, she was shy.
# 3 we found out at 20 weeks we were having a girl after I was so sure it was a boy. I cried. Once I held her in my arms though I was smitten.
#4 our doctor told us at 13 weeks that we were having a boy after 3 girls. I didn't believe her, even after our second scan at 20 weeks showed the same thing. It wasn't until he was in my arms that it sunk in and then for weeks after I couldn't believe my eyes at each diaper change. That one took a long time to sink in.
#5 we found out too.
I liked knowing the sex in advance so I could prepare clothes and other baby stuff, but boy or girl I was happy.
I was also happy to keep my pregnancy "a pregnancy". I figured knowing the gender would make it "a baby" before I was ready. I'm one of those crazies that believes life begins at birth and I didn't want to spoil it by thinking of names or buying clothes or projecting my dreams for the future until he/she was actually here.
I'm not one for surprises. Being a huge planner. I had to know. I needed to feel organized and ready. While I understood that finding out the gender at the viability ultrasound wasn't 100%, I had to take that chance.
Yes! I totally wanted to know. As soon as the doc said everything looked great I couldn't wait to hear. I feel like I started bonding with her on a different level as soon as I knew. :)
So many people say it ruins the biggest surprise of your life...but actually the surprise is still there, just on a different date!
We knew with our 2 pregnancies. I let my hubby decide if we should, so that he be more involved. He bonded so much more, once he knew his sons were on their way.
With our first, we decided not to find out. With our second...my husband opted out of knowing, but I found out on my own and....miracle of miracles...actually successfully kept the secret. First and last time. #LooseLipsLisa ;)
For me a surprise is a surprise until you find out. No matter if it's at birth or during an ultrasound. I was still surprised when they doctor said I was having a boy....and even more surprised when they said I was having a boy...AGAIN! It allowed me to plan everything the way I wanted it and that's the main reason I wanted to know.
Since I LOVE surprises, we decided to wait. We will find out soon enough (in the next two weeks) and my husband is very excited to announce..."It's a _____" :)
We didn't find out with our first two...and so we had a girl surprise and a boy surprise.
But by the third, we were ready to know!
Nope! Didn't want to know beforehand. What, and ruin the (2nd) biggest surprise ever?!
No with Son No. 1 and yes with Son No. 2 because I was so so sick I wanted to know who was causing it ;)
