I'm reading 2 at the same time (stupid, I know...) 11/22/63 and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I got a whole bunch of books for Christmas & I'm starting with those two
Just a quick summary of my recent reads and have reviewed on my blog:
The Paris Wife by Paula McLain (from the perspective of Hadley Richardson, Ernest Hemingway's Wife). Great read! If you can read A Moveable Feast by Hemingway first, you'll love the book even more (but not necessary!). If you don't have time to read Hemingway, give a listen to Mary Chapin Carpenter's song Mrs. Hemingway on The Age of Miracles.
Dear Me, compiled an edited by Joseph Galliano. A series of letters from famous people to their 16-year old selves. Funny, witty and sad. Will make you think back to being 16 (ok, that's the sad part).
Far to Go by Canadian author Alison Pick. Not quite finished this one but really great Jewish Czech family story WWII. She has matured masterfully as a writer!
Eileen when I saw you were reading The Dragon Tattoo I was about to reply "put it down" and then I saw Ali had written that exact message...seriously, I need a support group for people who will never get the hours they spent reading that book back. Why, why such a bestseller? Seriously, I need answers. Haven't seen the movie (too scarred from the book), is it any good? I love Daniel Craig so I imagine that would help.
I'm reading In The Company of the Courtesan right now, by Sarah Dunant. Loving it so far.
I ALWAYS used to be a real-book only type of girl..until I started taking the subway every day and then I started reading on my iPhone...and I absolutely LOVE it. It's so good at reading at night...don't need the lights on!
But, I still do sometimes read REAL books. Especially the ones I have already bought or stolen from my mom's house :)
Santa brought me a kobo this year and I'm loving it. As in, I can't believe I lived without one for so long. That said, I'll never give up real books. So I'm like you, Heather, I always have a few on the go, some on the e-reader and some of the old-school variety. That way I'm never without something great to read!
I have a Sony Ereader, thought I wouldn't like it, but haven't picked up an actual paperback since I received it for Christmas a year ago.
I'm on vacation right now, so doing some light reading. I've read 3 Sarah Addison Allen Books and have really enjoyed them. The ones I've read are The Sugar Queen, Garden Spells and The Girl that Chased the Moon. They are quick reads, there is always a little bit of a love story, a little bit of magic...they're good beach reads.
I also finished Honolulu by Alan Brennert. It was an excellent book.
I'm just about to start reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. Apparently it is similar to The Hunger Games but is supposed to be better. I'm cynical, yet hopeful.
Even though I still have my Christmas books on the go, all in various stages of being read, I went and got the Hunger Games Trilogy yesterday. Why? BECAUSE EVERYONE IS TALKING about it and I seriously don't know what all the hype is about.
It was on my son's Scholastic order form from school. I took it as a sign. :)
Just finished the Hunger Games series... and I'm in withdrawal!! Trying to figure out what to read next. Something NOT depressing if possible. suggestions?
I'm reading I don't know how she does it. Also R is for Ricochet, by Sue Grafton, Pride & Prejudice, 3 cups of Tea, and The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society.
I didn't realize how much I had missed readying!!! We are finishing up our 2 week long vacation in Florida and I've read 2 books on my Kobo. I loved Before I Go to Sleep- amazing suspense and twist at the end. I also read Room about a mother and child who had been confined in a small shed for 7 years- from the pages of the newspaper, it was an amazing read from the child's perspective.
Now I think I have to get the Hunger Games and figure out what the hype is all about!!!
Heather, I read Room too AND while on vacation! Tough plot but wonderfully written book that kept me engaged the whole time.
Just finished I Don't Know How She Doesn't It by Allison Pearson. Fictional story about the life of a working mom in a high pressure finance job. I guarantee you'll laugh and you'll cry. It's not about the sacrifices working moms make (though that dfinitely plays in the book) it's about mothers and their love for their children! I believe it's a movie now with Sarah Jessic Parker and Greg Kinnear but I have not seen the movie....
I'm now reading A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle. It's an oldie but I hear, like Under a Tuscan Sun, it will make me want to move to France :)
I am actually currently reading 4 books right now yes I know insanity is my middle name lol! They are: Jane Austen Made Me Do It by Laurel Ann Natress, Practice Cake by Dalya Moon (Canadian author), The Piano Teacher by Janice Y.K. Lee and An Un Productive Woman by Khaalidah Muhammad-Ali. I'm glad to report they are all good!
those sound great! I love to read books that might not make it as "Heather's Picks" at Indigo! I'm not sure if I'll dive into the Hunger Games....thoughts????
I'm reading The Kitchen House right now. It's very good so far!
Can't put it down. I feel all happy again, like when I read Twilight.
I'm reading 2 at the same time (stupid, I know...) 11/22/63 and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I got a whole bunch of books for Christmas & I'm starting with those two
Put down the Dragon Tattoo. See the movie instead.
And read the Stephen King. RIGHT NOW. You won't be sorry.
I am giving the Stephen King one more of my reading time. But I really, really want to read the Dragon Tattoo also.
I also totally forgot the Steve Jobs bio that I started after Christmas. I think I have reading adhd - too many books on the go...
I am the only person on earth who didn't like The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

...until the last chapter.
And then I got really angry. I'm still angry about it, actually :)
Someone just loaned me the Sookie Stackhouse series so I'm about to jump into those.

...have made me buy the Hunger Games trilogy. Kobo has a 25% off sale right now, so I picked up all three for $15.
I've also had Dragon Tattoo kicking around since last Christmas and I can't bring myself to read it. Maybe after the movie.
I bought the Steve Jobs book when it came out, got bored and let it lapse until my vacation. But the damn thing is LONG and I got bored again!
I'm turning into a magazine junkie and have no more patience left for a whole book.
I seem to always have 2 or 3 books on the go....one real paperback, 2 on my Kobo....which do you prefer???
I ALWAYS used to be a real-book only type of girl..until I started taking the subway every day and then I started reading on my iPhone...and I absolutely LOVE it. It's so good at reading at night...don't need the lights on!

Just getting into it...anyone read it? Thoughts?

I'm reading The Happiness Project and loving it
I'm laughing that The Hunger Games was on your son's Scholastic order form, Eileen.
:)
I'm reading Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D James. So far so good!
Just finished the Hunger Games series... and I'm in withdrawal!! Trying to figure out what to read next. Something NOT depressing if possible. suggestions?
