Trials At The Dinner Table

Picky Eaters Everywhere

I have four boys in my household. Four. A  self-proclaimed meatatarian, a carb addict, a boy who is addicted to eating fruits and veggies, chewing them, and then spitting them out, and a boob boy. Let’s just say I don’t hear Let’s have a salad for lunch or Gee Mum, I wish I could have more vegetables.

While some tricks work in getting them to eat more veggies, others have been a colossal failure.  For instance...

Trying to get my carb addict to eat more vegetables and fruits by putting them on a stick (who doesn’t like food on a stick!) resulted in a child who scraped off all the food from the skewer, then tried to eat that instead.  When he realized the skewer is not, in fact, some form of long baked carbohydrate, he launched it across the table where it hit his brother pathetically in the arm.

While hiding fruits and vegetables in muffins and breads works for my carb addict, Mister Chew and Spit has outsmarted me by going on deep muffin missions prying lose everything that looks like it may be healthy from the innards leaving piles of muffin crumbs from one end of the tray to the other. And if one those healthy little tidbits should just happen to make its way into his mouth, it promptly gets chewed and spit out onto the floor where it gets promptly eaten by our dog.

Thankfully Boob Boy has yet to form an opinion on any type of solid food, happily noshing away at my breast while I attempt to organize a healthy meal that includes some form of ferocious animal, food that can’t be used as a weapon, and that will eventually find its way to a stomach. Preferably not the dog's.
