Between the two of us, we have five little ones, so trust us when we say we've seen it all. Part of seeing it all includes dealing with some pretty explosive meltdowns. Epic meltdowns are almost like a right of passage for parenthood. Are we right, or what?!
As our kids hit the toddlers years, we noticed these meltdowns began to increase and they also started to become BIG. Oh, joy! You know what we mean when we say BIG:" The slap in the face, kicking and screaming, jelly-flop-in-the-middle-of-the-grocery-store freak outs. We've all been there. But the big question is: how can we avoid them?
After years of doing this parenting gig, we've officially concluded that most, if not all, meltdowns have two recurring themes: hunger and sleep deprivation.
We're going to talk about how to avoid those hunger meltdowns today because the sleep thing? That's a whole other conversation!
Luckily, for all of us, hunger meltdowns are a pretty easy thing to prepare for and ultimately, avoid. The most important thing to remember is to always travel with snacks! Being on our mom game, means being one step ahead of our little people. So the second we smell a whiff of a potential meltdown, we quickly run through our mental check list: Tired, needs to hit the washroom, diaper change, just got hit by a sibling, HUNGRY...yup, hungry is most often the answer. So pull out those snacks!
