How To Properly Open An Avocado

Avocados are a source of healthy fat, protein, and fibre so we should be including more of them in our diets. They’re great in salads, as sandwich toppers, and on their own with a spritz of lemon juice and a pinch of sea salt. But more importantly, there’s guacamole. If we’re going to be eating more avocados — and who can resist the delicious recipes all over the internet — opening an avocado shouldn’t end in a mushy mess.

Follow these four easy steps for a perfectly opened avocado without the mess:

1. Cut around the avocado, lengthwise. Cut through to the pit.

2. Twist the two halves of the avocado and separate them.

3. Embed the knife blade into the pit and twist out the pit.

4. Scoop out each avocado half using a tablespoon and slice or mash, as needed.

Bon appétit!

Katja loves to prepare delicious meals, but believes her children should be able to forage for themselves if she’s reading a good book. When she’s not reading, she’s juggling the kids’ sports, her business, volunteering, writing, and an active social life that includes eating a lot of cheese.

There isn't a cheese drawer in her fridge, it's a cheese shelf, and she thinks cream and butter belong in most recipes. She comes from a long line of nomads who believed in the romance and adventure of travel and she’s trying to pass that on to her children.
