A Capsule Wardrobe for Your Kids is Your Answer to Good Mornings

simply put, a capsule wardrobe is a closet built from basic pieces with an underlying emphasis on “mix and match-ability”

Capsule wardrobes are great for adults because they save time and money. And they’re great for kids for the exact same reasons – and more! When you can focus on purchasing fewer – but more selective articles of clothing - you can now put the time into making sure the pieces really fit together in a way that a jumbled closet never can. It really is true that you can build more outfits with 15 or 20 select pieces than you can 100 items of clothing that you (or your kids) only moderately enjoy wearing. And more clothing means needing more storage, and doing more laundry, and more clutter to deal with.

Any way you look at it, capsule wardrobes are a great idea, so let’s move beyond thinking of how they work in our own closets and start thinking about implementing them for our kids! One of the best reasons capsule wardrobes work well for kids is the removal of morning arguments and outfit disagreements! When everything is built to go together, everything works! This also helps impart independence in your kids in that they’ll now be free to choose their own outfits every day - and you won’t have to worry that they’ll show up on picture day wearing a bathing suit, beer can hat, and rubber boots. (I am speaking from experience here.)

If you’re not familiar with the concept of capsule wardrobes, here you go: simply put, a capsule wardrobe is a closet built from basic pieces with an underlying emphasis on “mix and match-ability” by using classic cuts, basic staple pieces, and similar like-goes-with-like colour scheme.

Add in a few pops of colour and some statement pieces and a trendy item (or two) each season, and you are good to go - literally! The idea of a capsule wardrobe is so good for kids it’s almost like they were made for each other. Kids can grab and go. No fuss, no bother. And shopping becomes so easy once you’ve established the capsule that you’ll only need to pop online for your trend pieces or when the kids outgrow current items that need replacing. Capsule wardrobes are anything but limiting - they are LIBERATING!

Here are some sample wardrobes with recommended pieces to get you started, or at least point you in the right direction. Add in pajamas and bathing suits, plus seasonal gear based on climate and personal needs, and you are done! Yes; DONE!
