Looking back at myself as I was growing up, I was not an overly athletic person. I had been in the junior cheerleading team in elementary school and I played a little bit of volleyball in high school. But otherwise, I was always ashamed of my body and didn’t want to put it on display to be judged in sports, nor feel that I was capable of being athletic.

I don’t have to search very far to find out where all my self-esteem issues stem from either. Although I lost my Mom when I was only 14, I remember her not loving her body very much, being on this diet and the next, and rarely liking her photo being taken.

Even as a young girl, my subconscious received those messages. “Your body isn’t good enough,” “Your body is not acceptable,” or that I needed to change what my body looks like.
