Life changes when you have kids including what you carry in your purse. Breath freshener and red lipstick make way for lollipops and Vaseline. While you still need to carry essentials for you, here are five must-haves you should never leave home without when you have kids.
A cell phone is great, especially in emergencies, but a smart phone adds a usability factor that’s priceless. You can use your smart phone to:
Capture special moments with the camera and video features
Entertain your kids with games
Help you find where you’re going, what you’re going to do when you get there and what the weather will be like—there’s an app for pretty much everything
And don't forget the charging cord or battery-case! A smart phone isn't so smart when it's dead.
You’re out and about with your kid. He trips, and the next thing you know, blood is involved. Kids and cuts go together like a PMSing woman and chocolate. They are inevitable. Keep a hefty supply of band-aids in different sizes for those times when a mom’s kiss isn’t enough. Bonus points if the band-aids have your child’s favourite character on them.
Kids are...drippy. That’s it in a nutshell right there. Be prepared.
Sticky fingers, dirty faces, and everything in between. Wet wipes are the miracle cleaner that will at least make them look presentable. They're also great for cleaning muddy grow-up boots and giving your car dashboard a quick dusting while waiting in the carwash. Two birds? ONE STONE.
Don’t let this little plastic bag fool you, it has a multitude of uses. Carry your band-aids or use it to hold used wet wipes, snack wrappers and banana peels. But it’s for the parent who has experienced a sick child while on a long car trip, that this little baggie comes in handy. It’s the perfect place to catch projectile. Plus it seals up nicely afterwards for easy disposal.
Motherhood can throw a multitude of challenges at you each day, being prepared is key. Speaking of keys…make sure you have those too. Being locked out of the house is never good.
Sharon DeVellis came to work at the YMC as the Yummy Mummy Club Coordinator after winning Canada's Yummiest Mummy Contest, a contest based on creativity and not on parenting skills (*whew* wipe beads of sweat from brow).
She is now the Senior Writer and maintains the voice of YMC which sounds very similar to the voice in her head. Being crazy is finally paying off.
