It's a story that captures our hearts under perfectly normal circumstances: a young girl in the UK comes home and tells her parents that a boy in her classroom proposed to her.
We’re not sure how old Millie is, but she looks to be about six or seven. That’s prime school sweetheart years, right there – before the boys and girls mutually decide that the other gender has cooties. We all have a first grade story like this ourselves - or know of one.
However… Millie’s story was a little different than most of ours. After she came home and told her parents about Tommy’s proposal, the excited girl also told them that Tommy gave her a ring, too. It was in her bag.
Her dad asked her to get the ring and show him. He mentioned on the video that he thought it might be a Haribo ring – a cheap candy friendship ring popular overseas. Perhaps he thought it might have been something a little bit more handmade with love.
Whatever the dad was expecting, it's a pretty safe bet that it wasn't what they actually found in Millie’s bag.
We can definitely see why Millie accepted Tommy’s proposal after this video – the boy clearly knows how to please a lady in the diamond jewelry department – and how to impress a father-in-law. Millie’s dad was clearly won over by this straight-up savage boy’s chutzpah in stealing his mom's 3 carat diamond engagement ring, and he granted his permission.
"Go on then Tommy!" he says.
Let’s hope that Tommy and Millie stay the course throughout school, because it’ll be a heck of a story to tell at the wedding reception if they eventually do get married for real.
As for how Tommy’s parents took the news of the engagement… there’s been nothing in the news. We only hope that Tommy’s mom found the situation as hilarious as Millie’s mom did.
