Dreaming Up Delicious

My son Jack has been fed exclusively by bottle since he was born in October.

Using bottles has allowed my husband and two older children to help feed and enjoy their own bonding time with Jack, and give me more time to get other things done like prepare breakfast and dinner. Overall, it has been a wonderful experience for our family.

Since Jack is my third child, I had many bottles at my disposal when it was time to feed him. These bottles, though, were standard and came in either small or large size with one type of nipple that comes in slow or medium flow.

After being given the chance to review the new Playtex Nipple Variety Pack I realized how much more sense it makes to be able to choose the type of nipple that suits your baby best.

Frugal Mom Eh!

A few months after my daughter Keira was born I was invited to a baby shower. I looked over the baby shower registry and found myself rolling my eyes at a lot of the items listed. Even as a first time mom myself, It was clear to me that it had been (poorly) put together by the first time mom-to-be all by herself. One item from that registry still sticks in my mind to this day as being especially ridiculous, especially for someone who planned to try to breastfeed. It was a full system of bottles and nipples to take baby from birth to toddler.

Now before I was a mom, I would have thought this to be reasonable, a great idea even. That was before I understood how picky and individual babies can be.

Bottle feeding is definitely a combination of science and art and I, for one, am glad that we’ve been lucky enough to switch between breast and bottle easily with both kids. If you follow me on Instagram you’ve probably noticed that I enjoy craft beers, fine wine, and a good cocktail (I am a beverage alcohol writer after all!) and pumping has been my saving grace. “A bottle for me and a bottle for baby” is my motto and one way for me to enjoy a night out or a couple glasses of vino. Mamma needs her bottle too!

I have always thanked the divine powers for the lactation consultant I met when the Little Monkey was just four days old. That gentle woman introduced me to a bottle and we used it for the entire first year and we were using the same bottle and nipple with Baby Boy. So when Playtex asked me to test drive their new Nipple Variety Pack I was skeptical but totally up for the challenge.

When you’re a new mom, it can be challenging to navigate the world of baby products. From the right diaper to the best car seat, you’re inundated with choices. One thing you really want to get just right, though, is your baby’s feeding system. Whether you’re breastfeeding, formula feeding or a combination of both, at some point you’re most likely going to need a bottle. My friend Sheri-Anne's baby is three months old and she recently returned to work, so she needed to find a great bottle system that her son would like. Three Chickens and a Boat

Babies are all different in their needs and wants when feeding. I know our first would feed fast and furious and gulp the milk as quickly as she could. Our second child would take her time and wanted a lazy feed (maybe she wanted more “mom time” being a middle child?) and our third—the smallest of the bunch—changed his opinion every other day!

I was thrilled to meet new mom Hannah, who is just settling into caring for her first baby, a beautiful 6-week-old baby girl. Hannah had the chance to test out the new Playtex Variety Pack with the Playtex VentAire or Nurser with Drop-Ins Liners bottles and was happy to share her thoughts on them.
