There is a dark, hidden side of motherhood - the side that all of us moms know about, but no one talks about.
Like the reality of falling asleep in the clothes you wore all day, waking up in those clothes and wearing them a second (or third) day in a row...even if they’re covered in baby sh*t, barf, and all the leaky stuff that pours out of you after you have a baby.
Or those days on end when you can’t fit in a quick shower.
Or those days when you CAN squeeze a shower into your mom schedule, and it’s basically a mini-vacation because you have approximately three minutes alone in peace until the banging on the bathroom door begins.
Or those times you find stale treats in your purse, mixed in with who-knows-what, and you dust them off because they look decent enough and you can’t even remember the last time you ate.
Or those rare occasions when you go grocery shopping solo, and it literally feels like a special occasion because you’re guaranteed some much-needed “me time.”
Or those times you drink your who-knows-how-old coffee because…it's coffee.
Or those times you fall asleep on the couch with all the kids around you, while they're watching a movie, because you're just that tired.
Or those times you tell your kids it's bedtime, even though it's an hour earlier than the time they're supposed to go to bed, because you just need a break.
Or those times when you're sitting on the floor playing with your kids, and it’s supposed to be a magical moment, but all you want to do is crawl in bed and watch trashy TV shows as far away from them as possible.
This is the reality or parenting. It does not take away how much we love our kids, but the truth of the matter is…not every side of motherhood is glamorous and fun.
What's your mom truth?
