Connie from Ottawa tweeted: “tell me SKINN by Dimitri James is 'busted' - he makes too many promises for a guy that looks like plastic surgery overkill.”

I have reviewed SKINN before and I have to say it is one of my least favourite lines based on the marketing claims, prices, and actual ingredients this line comes as close to modern day snake oil as it gets.
Not that any of the formulas are necessarily terrible, as a matter of fact they are pretty ok. It’s just they cannot possibly live up to their claims. The ingredients, in general, are as basic as they come and some of the products even have some very irritating oils/alcohols/plant extracts. You can find very inexpensive products that contain the very same ingredients for a fraction of the price.
SKINN Callagenesis (combo pack $107 for 4 x 5mL vials and 60 mL cream)
The exact ad copy reads: “protects from destructive free radical damage while infusing the skin with highly active cellular complexes, youth proteins, vitazymes, phyto-stem cells, a new generation of collagen-supporting peptides and extremely effective anti-oxidants.”
Simply analyzed:
1. There is no such thing as a “youth protein”
2. “Vitazymes” is a made up marketing word
3. Peptides are used in almost every cosmetic formula on the market – there is nothing revolutionary about them
4. Any anti-oxidant is extremely effective
There is not a single ingredient in this product that cannot be found in dozens of cosmetic products across a wide range of prices. In fact the majority of the formula is plant oils, cocoa butter, olive oil, glycerin, vitamin C, Vitamin E, slip agents, filler and preservatives.
Save your money. This product is as good as many in store brands found at the drug store.
