15 Shows to Netflix and Blanket Taco to This Winter

Netflix and chill: a phrase that doesn't usually apply to those of us over 30 who have been married for several years. Winter is coming, and as a perpetually cold AF person, I prefer Netflix and Blanket Taco.

(Sorry hubs, unless you're moving in to be my space heater, my couch and blanket are for me alone).

Needless to say, we EVENTUALLY watch out of material to watch, even when a series runs for a decade. So, if these five were favourites of yours, perhaps this will give you a new show or three to start streaming.

If you liked Ozark...

When drugs get involved, there's bound to be drama. Trust is always a life and death issue. Fortunately there's a great number of series available on Netflix that will satisfy the craving for a good crime thriller.

There's still a surprising number of people who haven't seen some of these gems:

Breaking Bad

Walter White is just your ordinary high school chemistry teacher in America with a health problem, a family, and a lot of bills to pay. Making meth is wrong... but does a wrong ever make a right? All 5 seasons are available on Netflix.

Narcos

Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar and other drug kingpins have their history chronicled in this Netflix series. Three seasons are available so far.

Bloodline

Every family has a black sheep. Some even have a few "skeletons" in the closet. The Rayburns have a corpse or two.

If you adored Stranger Things...

If you lived through the 80s, you know there's nothing not to love about Stranger Things except for the fact that you can binge watch the season in an entire weekend, and then be left wanting. So time to dig a few of these out of the closet.

X-Files

I can't even think about X-Files without the nostalgia of actually wanting to believe in something like Fox Mulder believed. Not to mention, there's some really messed up episodes (*cough, the Peacocks*) that still give me the heebie jeebies. First season is still a gem, and all 9 of the original series are on Netflix for the hardcore.

Black Mirror

If you appreciated shows like Dr. Who and the Twilight Zone, Black Mirror is going to be right up your alley with future (and near future) what-if events that will probably leave you a little bit paranoid. Fair warning, the first episode (and whole first season, honestly) is a doozy.

The OA

Honestly, I can't quite articulate my feelings about the OA. It's super complex - both intriguing and disappointingly vague. But then again, few shows that dabble in mysteries of a more spiritual nature try for the definitive answers. When they do, the mystery is better left a mystery. So taken as it is, the OA will leave you hungry for more.

If you wanted to be a part of Downton Abbey...

History, drama, and a dash of romance can make a potent mix.

Outlander

Cable cutters, rejoyce. While it won't give you the most recent season, Outlander seasons 1 and 2 are available on Netflix so you can see what is so amazing about Jamie Fraser for yourself.

Call the Midwife

I didn't think I would get into this show, but I did. It packed a surprising amount of substance in it, and gave us a bald look at life in London in a time when many of our parents were born.

The Paradise

The BBC has been a bit on fire lately. The Paradise is a show about the very first department store, circa 1875, and how it destroyed many a small shopkeeper as Walmart and Amazon are currently doing today.

If you liked The Crown

Power and politics have forever waltzed together, and it doesn't always have to be a game of thrones.

Borgia

The Renaissance was a time of great art, but it was also a time of lawlessness, war, and religion. The Borgia family stood in the middle of all three.

Dynasty

This 2017 show with two feuding super-rich families is a reboot of the 1980s series by the same name.

Marco Polo

Everyone knows the name Gengis Khan, but fewer people know legends of the successor, Kublai. While the series is likely highly fictionalized, there is still much intrigue and politicking to enjoy in the show.

If you enjoyed weeds...

Dark comedy is one of the finer things in life.

Trailer Park Boys

I feel like this show really needs no introduction. Like most black comedy, it's an acquired taste, but once you get hooked, you're in for the duration.

Better Call Saul

If you liked his character in Breaking Bad, then rejoice: there's an entire TV series dedicated to the sleezy ambulance chaser that is Saul.

Santa Clarita Diet

What if you were a regular suburbanite mom with a loving family who just happened to wake up dead and with a taste for human flesh, but otherwise had bills to pay and PTA meetings to attend? Yeah, this.
