Beach Ready Beauty: What To Pack For A Day In The Sun

There's nothing better than spending a summer day outdoors with your family, especially if it involves going to a beach! Here's a list of my must-have items to stay pretty while having fun in the sun:

1) SUNSCREEN: I like to apply L'Oreal Silky Sheer SPF 50 lotion thirty minutes before heading outside. This sweet-smelling lotion is light, spreads easily and absorbs immediately. Bonus — it has Vitamin E and grapeseed extract to nourish your skin. I carry Vichy Capital Soleil Invisible Mist SPF 30 in my bag. This alcohol-free spray feels SO refreshing on my skin and makes it easy to reapply sunscreen every two hours. Also, it smells AMAZING!

2) FACE: Instead of applying sunscreen on my face, I like to use a BB cream — it has all the protection of a sunscreen with added skincare benefits. The Vichy Idealia BB Cream (available Sep 2014) is SPF 25. It contains thermal water and illuminates skin while smoothing the appearance of wrinkles and reducing dark spots. L'Oreal Silky Sheer BB Cream is SPF 50. It's oil-free, evens skintone, leaves a matte finish, and is lightweight enough for everyday use.

3) LIPS: I like using a moisturizing lip product with a tint of colour, so I can reapply easily without needing a mirror. Two products I love are L'Oreal Pop Balm in Wild Lily and Revlon Lip Butter in Peach Parfait. Ideally I'd pick a tinted balm with some SPF, but I don't currently own one — would love any recommendations below.

4) EYES: I'm very loyal to my tube of Covergirl Lashblast Volume Waterproof mascara. It stayed put without smearing despite having buckets of water poured on me (if you've been to Great Wolf Lodge, you'll know what I mean!) — which makes it a star product in my book.

5) HAIR: My highlighted hair tangles VERY easily, so I like to smooth on Organix Moroccan Argan Oil before heading out to the beach. I also keep this teeny bottle in my beach bag to reapply as needed — it makes my hair easy to manage — and knock wood, this bottle and formula is very travel friendly (unlike MoroccanOil, which works amazingly on my hair but leaks EVERYWHERE if I travel with it.)

6) NAILS: I like giving myself a gel-finish manicure and pedicure before a weekend at the beach. No UV-light is required, but the thick basecoat and topcoat ensure a longer-lasting finish than regular nail polishes. My pedicures with L'Oreal Gel-lacque polishes usually last 2 weeks and my manicures are chip-free for 1 week, which is good enough for me, especially since these polishes come off with regular nail-polish remover (and don't have to be scraped off the nail like UV treated gel polishes!)
