Oprah, Dr. Seuss and Mr. Morris Lessmore

Video Fun with Books

Over the past few weeks there's been some creative videos that have been floating around the television screen and the social media scene. In case you missed out on all the fun, I'm sharing them here so get ready to laugh and be transported by books!

First up is the Jimmy Kimmel Live: After The Academy Awards video. In this skit the irrepressible Jimmy pitches his idea for a new Own Network show to Oprah called The Oprah's Book Club Fight Club. The title alone makes me laugh but when you watch the video clip I'm sure you will agree it's insanely funny. Special thanks to Leslie Huges @PunchMediadotca for tweeting this video to my attention. I still can't believe Oprah's mean right hook!

If you watched the Academy Awards show you might have noticed the Best Animated Short Film win by The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. The video is charming and definetly Oscar worthy. The film was developed into an interactive narrative experience in the form of an app for children and parents to enjoy. You can check out the website www.morrislessmore.com and download the app for apple products. I have to give credit to Wendy @AppHipMom for mentioning the book app to me during the #YMCOscars twitter party! You and your kiddies can view the entire video below.

I think we all hold a special spot in our childhood memoires when it comes to Dr. Seuss and his quirky books. On March 2nd we celebrated Dr. Seuss' 108th birthday with the opening of the movie The Lorax. To pay homage to Seuss and his fantastical books Random House of Canada created a special Seuss reading of One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by authors Ami McKay (The Birth House, The Virgin Cure), Erin Morgenstern (The Night Circus) and Kevin O'Leary (Cold Hard Truth). Marvelous mention goes out to Cassandra Sadek @literalicious for putting all the authors up to it!

Last but not least is the YouTube video The Joy Of Books. This video is a combination of whimsy and fantasy where books come alive after a book store closes for the night. I can't believe or image the amount of work and patience it would take to make this video. See all the creativity and detail for yourself and special shoutout to Eric Novak @MMPerspectives & @Enviro_Dad for bringing this video to my attention!

I hope you enjoyed these videos as much as I did. Please share any great book related links in the comments below!

Relish reading,
