Title For New Bridget Jones Novel Revealed!

BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY

Title For New Bridget Jones Novel Revealed!

Have you been waiting for what seems like forever for the new Bridget Jones adventure? If you’ve been Jonesing for Bridget then fret no more, because she’s baaaack and BRIDGET JONES is "MAD ABOUT THE BOY"! Read on to find out more.

TITLE FOR NEW BRIDGET JONES BOOK REVEALED: “MAD ABOUT THE BOY”

HELEN FIELDING’S NOVEL TO BE PUBLISHED OCTOBER 15, 2013

Helen Fielding — the British writer whose wildly popular newspaper column depicting a 30-something single woman living in London in the 1990s became a worldwide sensation in the guise of Bridget Jones — has written a new novel featuring her iconic protagonist. BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY will be published by Knopf Canada on October 15, in print and e-book editions, with a first printing of 50,000 copies.

When asked which boy Bridget was mad about, Fielding merely raised one eyebrow enigmatically.

Fielding’s first book, Bridget Jones's Diary, was an international bestseller and global phenomenon when it was originally published in 1996. It was followed in 1999 by a sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. Together, the novels sold more than 15 million copies and were published in 40 different countries, and both were adapted into blockbuster films starring Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant, and Colin Firth.

Louise Dennys, Executive Publisher of the Knopf Random Canada Publishing Group, said, "Helen Fielding accomplished something rare and wonderful as a writer — she brought a character into the lives of millions of people who today still smile at the memory of that all-too-human singleton in nineties’ London.  BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY is a totally new phase in Bridget’s life, as Helen indicated when she said, ‘Bridget's life has moved on.’ But, the question is, just how much?  Well, here is what we can share: the novel is set in present-day London; Bridget is older; she is still keeping a diary, but she is also immersed in texting and experimenting with social media, with an accent on ‘social.’"

“And how grateful I am to Helen Fielding,” Louise Dennys, added, “for letting us into Bridget’s life again — one of the great comic characters of our times."

11.27 p.m. Just presss d  SEND. Iss fineisn't it?

You see, this is the trouble with the modern world.  If it was the days of letter-writing, I would never even have started to find his address, a pen, a piece of paper, an envelope, a stamp,  and gone outside at 11.30p.m. to find a postbox. A text is gone at the brush of a fingertip, like a nuclear bomb or exocet missile.

DATING RULE NO:1

DO NOT TEXT WHEN DRUNK

The book cover image for BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY is a ‘holding image.’ The real cover will be revealed in the next couple of months and the book will hit the shelves on October 15, 2013. Watch this blog and follow @RandomHouseCA for future details about all things Bridget Jones!

Q & A With PRECISE Author Rebecca Berto

Guest Post By Tara Wagg

Q & A With PRECISE Author Rebecca Berto

Do you remember Christina Crawford’s memoir MOMMIE DEAREST and the dark movie that exposed Joan Crawford as a mother from Hell? Well, in the novella PRECISE, the character Kate could certainly relate to the daughter’s fate. Read on to learn more about this intense psychological drama and enter to win a digital copy.

Guest Blogger Tara Wagg Reviews PRECISE By Rebecca Berto

PRECISE is a debut novella by Rebecca Berto, and a courageous look at mental health and its effects on family. Twenty-two year old Katie Anselin is under the influence of her mentally ill and abusive mother. Katie’s mom, Rochelle, blames her for the numerous miscarriages and stillborn babies she endured resulting in Rochelle’s verbal and physical rage toward Katie. Paul, Katie’s husband and lifeline gives her the strength to believe in herself and feel happy. Katie learns that she is pregnant and is going to be a young mother. Paul and Katie need to work together to protect their child from being a pawn in Rochelle’s desperate need to control and defeat Katie.

From the first page, PRECISE is intense. Rebecca Berto creates a gritty world for her main characters, one in which displays an honest look at the lasting effects of family abuse. I find myself even weeks after reading the novel thinking of Katie and Rochelle and their determination to survive. The subject matter is definitely not light, but the story leaves the reader with a sense of hope.

Q & A With Rebecca Berto

1.  Where did the inspiration for PRECISE come from?

I wrote a novel-length manuscript before PRECISE called, PULLING ME UNDER.  When that story starts there is so much history that once I started thinking of ideas, a story for the novella, PRECISE came to me. It details what occurs in the years before PULLING ME UNDER.

2.  The characters and subject matter in PRECISE are gritty and raw; did you find the writing process for this novella emotionally exhausting? How did you deal with the emotions?

You read my mind! Absolutely exhausting but my emotions, which were as deep as the characters in turmoil, always came out better in the end. When I write stories, I learn a little about my life and myself. Like all bad things that help us grow from the pain, PRECISE stripped me raw, but I came out stronger in the end.

3.  Who should read PRECISE and what do you hope readers will gain from the story?

PRECISE is written for a type of person, more so than an age group. Sure, mature teens and adult women are my target, but it’s really for anyone who’s been bullied, belittled, or targeted psychologically. Laws get right onto people who abuse others physically, but so often psychological abuse is targeted on victims so well it can go undetected.

4.  As a young, new author, what advice do you have for those of us who aspire to write?

Reading is much more important than trying to write better. This may sound odd, but it was only once I started reading at least 1–2 books a week that my manuscripts sounded less stiff and more like the feeling of closing your eyes and watching a world and people unfold in front of you. My staggered, disjointed, clumsy writing is so much better because I read lots of novels and analyse what I love best and dislike most with a writer’s mind.

5.  Please tell us a little bit about your next novels DROWNING IN YOU and PULLING ME UNDER.

My next release will be a New Adult Contemporary Romance, DROWNING IN YOU. This genre has exploded since 2012 and I realized I was reading so much of it, than I wanted to write about it. My novel, DROWNING IN YOU was released on April 12 in eBook and paperback, and PULLING ME UNDER will come at some point in the near future.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Rebecca Berto is a new adult contemporary romance author and a freelance editor. She writes stories that are a bit sexy, and straddle the line between Literary and Tear Your Heart Out. She gets a thrill when her readers are emotional reading her stories, and gets even more of a kick when they tell her so. She’s strangely imaginative, spends too much time on her computer, and is certifiably crazy when she works on her fiction. Rebecca Berto lives in Melbourne, Australia with her boyfriend and their doggy.

S.E.C.R.E.T Fantasies Revealed

In New Erotica Series by L. Marie Adeline

S.E.C.R.E.T Fantasies Revealed

What comes to mind when you think of the erotica genre? The back section of a book store? A book that you read in secret or hide behind the privacy of an ereader? Well, banish those thoughts forever because erotica is becoming more mainstream. Read on to learn more about the new S.E.C.R.E.T erotica series that has its readers begging for more!

No Judgements. No Limits. No Shame.

S.E.C.R.E.T is set in steamy, spicy New Orleans which acts as a character all on its own. Readers are introduced to Cassie, a waitress at the Rose Café. Cassie is a young widow who lives with the memories of her bad marriage to her alcoholic husband Scott. She lives in an apartment nicknamed "The Spinster Hotel." Every day is humdrum for Cassie, that is until she comes across a Rose Café patron's notebook. The notebook is a diary that describes scenes of sexual exploits.

Oh my!

Cassie gives in to her urge to read the contents and finds herself both embarrassed and intrigued. The owner of the diary returns to the Rose Café to claim her notebook and tells Cassie if she liked what she read then she should be part of her secret society. S.E.C.R.E.T is an underground society where women have the opportunity to discover their desires, shed their inhibitions and live out their fantasies. Each new candidate is hand picked by a member of the society and given a sponsor to guide them through the S.E.C.R.E.T Steps. Cassie is introduced to her sponsor Matilda, given a gold charm bracelet and asked to accept the 10 Steps: Surrender, Courage, Trust, Generosity, Fearlessness, Confidence, Curiosity, Bravery, Exuberance, and The Choice. The first 9 steps involve Cassie's fantasies and this is where things get very interesting! After each Step has been experienced, Cassie earns a charm to add to her bracelet. Step 10 is where she needs to make a choice. I will let you use your imagination to wander and wonder about all the possibilities or better yet, you can enjoy the first four chapter of S.E.C.R.E.T. here for free and check out the video book trailer!

THE SECRET LONDON BOOK CLUB

When Random House of Canada gave me access to several copies of S.E.C.R.E.T by L. Marie Adeline I approached my friend Margarita Ibbott to give her book club members the awesome opportunity to read the book. A dozen of her book club members each received a copy of the novel. All but 2 of the book club members thought S.E.C.R.E.T was a great first forray into erotica for both the author and any first time erotica reader. Some of the women had read Fifty Shades of Grey or all 3 books in the trilogy and felt S.E.C.R.E.T would be perfect for those who found Fifty Shades too graphic for their taste. All of the book club members who enjoyed the book said they were looking forward to the upcoming S.E.C.R.E.T novels. There were many discussions about the 10 Steps and the celebrity men that book club members imagined playing some of the roles in Cassie's fantasies. It was a titillating discussion to say the least!
