5 Great Book and Gift Pairings

GIFT GIVING IDEAS FOR BOOK LOVERS

Have you finished shopping for everyone on your gift list? What about that person you find so hard to buy for? My suggestion is to pair a book with a coordinating item to create a thoughtful gift that will go over like gangbusters!

A coffee table book with a gift to go with the subject matter like a pass to a museum, art gallery, photo exhibit or maybe a cool photo frame.

Book suggestion: Dear Photograph by Taylor Jones

If you spend even a modest amount of time on the interwebs then you already know about dearphotograph.com. Taylor Jones aka T.J. describes his creative collection of photography as "taking a picture of a picture, of the past, in the present." Wrap your head around that! T.J. corralled the photo submissions from his website into a handy dandy book and trust me here when I say, get it, give it and you're golden!

A book about wine paired with, well, a bottle of wine of course! Pick the wine to go with a meal the recipient enjoys or choose something from the wines suggested in the book.

Book suggestion: Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Unquenchable is a wonderful guide that squeezes out all the goodness of grapes and serves it up for both wine novices and experts. Natalie MacLean presents her expert advice in an approachable fashion and did you know that Nat has an app for that?

Why not give a book by a local writer or an indie author and include a gift card to bookstore because a book lover can never have too many books and I can attest to this!

Book suggestion: Stripped Down Running by Andrea Nair

This psychological work of fiction is written by psychotherapist Andrea Nair. Heroine Hannah tries to outrun her past, but ends up on a path to self discovery and forced to face the truth of her dark youth.

A book that's been made into a movie and the DVD movie version or a movie pass. You just can't miss with a combo like this!

Book Suggestions: Life of Pi, The Hobbit, and The Lorax

One of my favourite novels is Yann Martel's bestseller Life of Pi. It was finally adapted for the big screen, directed by Ang Lee and get this, it's even in 3D!

One of the most anticipated movies of the year is The Hobbit. The movie cast includes many from the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. Pair the book with a movie pass or go for the gusto and gift The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings boxed set and the Lord of The Rings movie collection!

Pair the Dr. Seuss fave The Lorax and the DVD movie version to make any child grin with glee! The story is entertaining but it also has bonus teaching moments about greed and an important environmental message against deforestation, and pollution.
