What To Do With Negative Attention

When my son was six, he began to wear ties to school. I can’t even remember the first time it happened or why he chose to wear a tie that first day. Had I known how it would evolve I would have written it down, because now, years later, he wears either a dress shirt and tie or full suit and tie every single day.

It has become such a normal part of our lives, I don’t even see it anymore. But others do.

I read a story about a 12-year-old boy, Joel Morales, who had been taunted and bullied by classmates and, despite moving schools, the bullying continued. Last week he hung himself in his family's apartment.

My older son is not too far away from twelve. I can't imagine what Joel's family is going through—what this boy went through that brought him to the point he felt he had no other choice but to kill himself.
