Art for Book Lovers

What would your ideal bookshelf look like?

I have always loved books. As a child I read, and reread, The Secret Garden, The Phantom Tollbooth, The Island of the Blue Dolphins and more. Books have always been in my life and they are part of the fabric of my home. My children's rooms are packed with books. And mine are packed three rows deep on bookcases in our family room. I came across a site today called, Ideal Bookshelf, that is going to blow your book and decor loving minds.

Twitter for Beginners

Twitter Dos And Don'ts

Whether you are a brand or a person looking to connect online, twitter is an amazing social media tool. But, it is only amazing if it is used the right way. Twitter is hard to grasp in the beginning, but, simply put, it is about building relationships, making connections, and engaging with others.

5 Geometric Rugs for $600 or less

Adding pattern to your floor without breaking the bank

I kind of have an obsession with geometric area rugs. I love the patterns, the colours and the sense of fun they add to a room. They feed my love of symmetry. But damn, they can be expensive! So, I went on a search for fabulous, but frugal, geometric rugs. Ranging in price from $89 to $580, these prove you don't have to break the bank to add some geometric goodness to your floors.

DIY Halloween Art

Boo-tiful Wine Bottle Art

I have to say, this may be one of my most fang-tastic DIYs. {sorry...I love Halloween puns. It's an addiction}
I hope you agree!

I wanted to create a fun piece of art for Halloween so I headed to my favourite crafty store, Michaels, for inspiration. When I found these Martha Stewart Halloween wine bottle labels I knew just what I wanted to make: art!

DIY Halloween Decor

Spooky Halloween Silhouettes

I love Halloween, because of the candy of course, and because it is such a great opportunity to have fun with decor. Last year I made a Halloween poster {you can find the free printable here}. This year I wanted to make something that added a little light and a little spook to my decor so I created these spooky silhouettes:

We are hosting Thanksgiving this year so I am already thinking of DIY decor ideas. Last year I painted metallic pumpkins. As much as I loved them, I never like to do the same thing twice.

I recently came across the Martha Stewart Crafts glitter and have been desperate to try it so I bought two shades of green and a vibrant yellow to create a glittery vase centerpiece. The vases I bought are a simple cylinder shape. I also picked up some mod podge.

IKEA 2013 Catalogue Top Decor Picks

Stylish with a side of meatballs

It's no secret that I love IKEA. I have several IKEA pieces in my home and my marriage has survived many an allen key assembly. I even lugged a very heavy decor piece home from my days living in Stockholm because I could not bear to part with it.

Research Vintage Finds Before Buying

google it before you gift it

My whole family loves shopping for vintage decor, and now my brother in law is addicted too. On a recent family visit to Mahone Bay, we dragged him to the flea market and various antique shops. He was mostly drawn to vintage jars and bottles. So, when my mom and I were at an outdoor antique market later that weekend, she picked up this bottle to give him for Christmas:

Top Five Cursive Fonts

the prettiest cursive fonts on the web

I admit it. I am a font snob. You will never see comic sans near anything I do. And I have to say, I am so not a fan of the London Olympics 2012 font. At all. It's too angular and pointy for me:

Vintage Decor Shopping In Nova Scotia

pretty, inexpensive and stylish

I have been on holiday in Nova Scotia for two weeks and have been shopping {of course} at a few of my favourite antique shops. One of my favourite ones appears to be closed this summer...SOB... but I have found such pretty things at some of my other top spots. Stay tuned for a post about each store very soon! Until then, here is a peek at my purchases.

Nova Scotia Artist Lindsay Hicks

art is the perfect holiday keepsake

Whenever I travel, I always buy a piece of art of the place I visited. I love having paintings on my walls that have meaning and hold special memories.

Wandering the Halifax waterfront today, I came across beautiful art by artist Lindsay Hicks. She was perched along the wall, painting, and had several pieces on display. I love the way she captures the feeling of my home, Nova Scotia

DIY Painted Vases

Taking a thrift store find from plain to chic

I was working on a tabletop recently for Cityline, and I wanted to use black vases for a centrepiece, but I could not find any. So I did what any DIYer would do and I headed to Value Village to pick up some inexpensive, vintage-style vases. I chose five. I like to work with odd numbers and I liked the varying heights and styles of these:
