If you read my last post, you already know that the talented Jonathan and Drew Scott of W Network's Property Brothers have teamed up with Scotiabank for the #GreenYourRoom contest to help us transform our homes to be more eco-friendly.
I am a huge fan of IKEA, so when they challenged me to transform a space in my home using only textiles as a part of their new Quick and Easy textile campaign, I jumped at the chance. It was difficult choice, because, if I am honest, so many rooms in our home still need some love. I narrowed it down to two spaces—our older son's bedroom and our basement family room. The winner, due to lighting issues, was the basement family room/guest room.
Finally it's spring, which means it's time to start thinking of home renovation projects. I already have a huge list of things I want to change in my home to make it more functional and beautiful, but I get stuck when it comes to making green home renovation choices.
As much as I love the pretty, the reality is I need to focus on lowering utility bills, increasing my property value, and making our home a healthier and safe environment for my children.
Our basement storage room was a winning contender for an episode of Hoarders. Seriously. I had to climb over boxes and bins to get to my craft supplies. I redid the rest of the basement in the spring, so I decided to tackle this neglected corner of our house over the Christmas holiday.
Here is what it looked like before . . . okay, if I'm honest, here is what it looked like before, after I cleaned it for about two hours:
I think I am still in shock that Erica and Royale made a dream come true for me by asking me to renocate seven year old Jessie’s bedroom. This was my first time designing a space for someone else and it just happened to be for my boss’s daughter. And on tv. No pressure right?
Still, I have had the most fun creating a dream room for Jessie...the planning, the shopping, the painting and the styling. I loved every single minute.
Now it's time for the reveal, for Jessie to see her new beautiful room.
