Nova Scotia Fine Art

Maritime Masterpieces

I am always inspired when I come home to Nova Scotia. This summer I want to share with you two incredibly talented Nova a Scotian artsts, Tom Alway and Peter Blais. I have loved their work for a long time but this is the first summer in ages that I have been able to spend time with them in their quant gallery, called The Maritime Painted Saltbox

Their work captures Nova Scotia perfectly. The images and the colours say home to me.

Just look:

Research Vintage Finds Before Buying

google it before you gift it

My whole family loves shopping for vintage decor, and now my brother in law is addicted too. On a recent family visit to Mahone Bay, we dragged him to the flea market and various antique shops. He was mostly drawn to vintage jars and bottles. So, when my mom and I were at an outdoor antique market later that weekend, she picked up this bottle to give him for Christmas:

Vintage Decor Shopping In Nova Scotia

pretty, inexpensive and stylish

I have been on holiday in Nova Scotia for two weeks and have been shopping {of course} at a few of my favourite antique shops. One of my favourite ones appears to be closed this summer...SOB... but I have found such pretty things at some of my other top spots. Stay tuned for a post about each store very soon! Until then, here is a peek at my purchases.

Nova Scotia Artist Lindsay Hicks

art is the perfect holiday keepsake

Whenever I travel, I always buy a piece of art of the place I visited. I love having paintings on my walls that have meaning and hold special memories.

Wandering the Halifax waterfront today, I came across beautiful art by artist Lindsay Hicks. She was perched along the wall, painting, and had several pieces on display. I love the way she captures the feeling of my home, Nova Scotia

Vintage Decor Shopping in Nova Scotia

My Favourite Shops on the Lighthouse Route

Some of my best childhood memories are from the drives I took with my parents along the Lighthouse Route each summer. Not only is the scenery beautiful, but the vintage and décor shopping is amazing.

This summer my mom and I recreated our trip, stopping at our old favourite shops and discovering some new gems.

These are must must-stop-shops on the South Shore of Nova Scotia {heading from Halifax to Bridgewater}:

1. Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard
30 Hwy 3
Hubbards, NS B0J 1T0

Vintage Décor Shopping

More Nova Scotian Decor Treasures

I took advantage of my boys’ nap time the other afternoon and went back to the shop where I found my first Nova Scotia treasures to take another look around and I found some more vintage loveliness. The prices are out of this world amazing.

Going Home to Nova Scotia

Home Decor Finds With An East Coast Feel

This past week we loaded up the boys and drove to the place I will always call home, Nova Scotia. There is no better place to be in the summer. This is where we spent our first morning:

Nova Scotia is one of my favourite places to shop for home décor, especially vintage and antiques. My mom and I found some amazing pieces yesterday that I will share in another post. Today, we went to Lunenburg. We go there every summer for the views, the food and the shopping. You can’t help but be inspired there.
