I have wanted to make place card holders using vintage finials for ages and I finally found the perfect ones at my favourite antique spot in Nova Scotia, Sunnyhill Antiques.
I can't tell you how excited I am to be writing this post. Last spring, a twitter friend {who is now a real life friend} asked if I would be interested in redecorating her daughter's bedroom. I am thrilled to share it with you now! I had to keep it top secret because we shot it for Cityline. You can watch the videos of the before and after here. It was a thrill to shoot my first client's space for the show. Thanks Kate! xo
This is the time of year when we all feed the need to be more organized. A great way to 'corral your clutter' is to use decorative trays throughout your home. They add colour and pattern and keep small every day items together in one place. I created this fabric covered tray for a recent Cityline segment. It now has a happy new home on my coffee table. For now, it holds flowers.
Have you been looking for Christmas ornaments in a certain colour or shade but can't find them anywhere? I had the same problem when searching for red and pink ornaments recently. Instead of giving up, I decided to paint my own. You won't believe how easy it is, or how great they will look!
I was working on a tabletop recently for Cityline, and I wanted to use black vases for a centrepiece, but I could not find any. So I did what any DIYer would do and I headed to Value Village to pick up some inexpensive, vintage-style vases. I chose five. I like to work with odd numbers and I liked the varying heights and styles of these:
It's no secret that I am a huge fan of David Dawson's art. His piece Muskoka Autumn is just about the prettiest thing ever, don't you agree? It is just such a happy painting. You can find more of his fabulous work here.
I have recently discovered Royal Design Studio and fell in love with their line of stylish and pretty stencils. My first project was a bookcase that I loved so I was feeling brave enough to try something a little different.
For those of us that love to travel, decorating with maps is the perfect way to incorporate your passion into your decor. They are meaningful, colourful and come in a variety of designs and sizes.
As I said in a similar post in January, I am not a fan on New Year's Resolutions. I am, however, a big dreamer. And I think there is something to be said for putting your dreams out there. So, here is my dreamy wish list for posts I'd like to write in 2012.
- I wrote this one last year but it is yet to happen, so, again, I dream of observing the styling and photographing of a Style At Home magazine shoot.
I love the idea of creating a cute and fun table for children at family holiday dinners. There are a few things to keep in mind when designing a table for kids. I recently shared my tips for creating fun and interactive table décor on Cityline.
I think choosing a theme is a great starting point. I went with a Frosty the Snowman theme because it appeals to children of all ages.
