One Bookcase, Four Looks

I recently gave a bookcase in my living room new life by adding a coat of paint and a gorgeous Royal Design Studio to the back.

I love the results but I also want to share other, less permanent, ways to add some colour and pattern to the back of a bookcase.

Fabric is a great alternative. There are so many amazing colours and patterns to choose from and it is easy to work with. Tonic Living is my go to spot for fabric...so many beautiful, colourful choices!

I love love love this grey chevron! I think this will be the one I switch my stencil to when I want a change.

This colourful Modern Meadow fabric looks so fresh and fun. Here you can see it with the stencil. {And no, I would not use them both together.}

This Garden Damask fabric is really way prettier in real life then in the photo. I clearly need to work on my photography skills!

So.....how did I make this happen, you ask? It was sooooo easy! I went to Home Depot and had them cut sheets of 1/4 inch white hardboard to fit the back of each bookshelf. I wrapped each one in fabric and used a glue gun to hold in place. If you are worried about the fabric covered board tipping, you can secure in place to the back of the bookcase with velcro or double sided tape. The best part about this project is that you can switch it up whenever you want a new look!

Another option is to use wallpaper or wall decals. I love this pattern below. It is a peel-and-stick wallpaper, called Wall Pops, that comes in large sheets and is so easy to work with! It is also wipeable which is great.
