A Good Mantel is Hard to Find

tips for decorating mantels

A fireplace is often the centrepiece of a room, a cosy spot to gather around. It can also be a fantastic opportunity to showcase your design style. I went in search of some inspirational photos of fireplace mantels and it was not an easy task. Looking for pretty mantels was driving me mental. But don’t worry, I am not one to give up; I found some beautifully adorned mantels along with some tips for you to apply to yours.

-group a small collection of similar items

-layer your mantel with items of different heights

-use a mirror to reflect light and the rest of the beauty in the room

-a mantel does not need to be over a real fireplace. I love the rustic look of this one.

-use natural elements to adorn your mantel and change them to suit each season. Beautiful and budget friendly

-think about the scale of your fireplace when choosing your artwork. The art {or mirror} should be about 2/3 the length of the mantel.

-for a peaceful look, keep it simple and airy

I wish every room in my house had a fireplace so I could borrow inspiration from each of these photos. I guess I'll just have to make due with the freshly painted one in my family room which is patiently waiting to be Christmafied.
