My First Client Reveal

tween girl's bedroom

I can't tell you how excited I am to be writing this post. Last spring, a twitter friend {who is now a real life friend} asked if I would be interested in redecorating her daughter's bedroom. I am thrilled to share it with you now! I had to keep it top secret because we shot it for Cityline. You can watch the videos of the before and after here. It was a thrill to shoot my first client's space for the show. Thanks Kate! xo

Jules' bedroom is small, and the bunk bed was taking up too much space visually and covering the window on the back wall:

Jules was tired of the pastel pink and the furniture passed down from older siblings or left over from her nursery, including the chair, baskets, and memo boards:

She loves to read and this small bookcase at the foot of the bed was too small to store her growing library:

Jules and I talked a lot about how she wanted the room to look and function. What she wanted, more than anything, was a desk. And no more pastel pink. Anywhere.

I came up with a plan and sourced a combination of vintage, modern and repurposed pieces, combined with custom window treatments and a bench cushion from Tonic Living

After several months, this is how Jules' room looks now:

We selected the bedding from PB Teen first and I pulled the colour scheme for the room from that. I chose a much lighter version of the pool colour of the bedding and used it on the ceiling, the back of the bookcase and in the cubbies of the bench. The colour is Benjamin Moore Light Touch. I then added a soft gray to the walls, called Whitestone. Dave and his crew from 2 Guys Painting did and amazing job on the walls and ceiling {I love the painted ceiling}. When combined with the coral of the custom Tonic Living roman blinds, the scheme is fresh, young, and fun.

Jules desperately needed more storage and wanted a place for her friends to hang out. This bench is the perfect solution. I had the cubbies sprayed in the ceiling colour and ordered a custom cushion in gray and white ikat from Tonic Living. The vintage mirror is from Petits et Jolis. I painted it in Benjamin Moore Advance paint.

The tall IKEA bookcase at the end of Jules's bed provides much needed storage. We personalized it by adding the ceiling colour to the back. Jules now has a ton of storage for her books and collectibles.

Here are some before and after shots. I wish I had taken more photos of the before of the room. I think I was just too excited to get started. The PB Teen wall system corrals the items that all tween girls want to display on their walls in a stylish and focused spot.

Removing the bunk bed and replacing it with this kijiji headboard and footboard that we had sprayed at Paint it Like New really opens up the space. The vintage bedside table is another kijiji find. The fabulous dhurrie rug is from West Elm.

I am so happy that Jules loves her new room!
