My 2013 Summer Bucket List: Explore!

Forget lemonade stands, it's time to explore

summer bucket list

In January I chose one word to focus on for 2013: Explore. I chose it with the intent to explore all kinds of things—things I enjoy, things I've never tried, things I've been scared to do. It's not just about going places, though that's a big part of it too. And now that summer is here, it's time to expand the list.

Some people make summer bucket lists, which include all the typical summer activities—playing with bubbles outside, making s'mores, setting up a lemonade stand. I'm sure we'll do some of that too, but what I really want to do is take in some of the fabulous fun available in Alberta in the summer.

We've lived in Calgary for a year and a half now (after moving from BC) and we've enjoyed doing a lot of things my husband remembers from when he lived here as a teenager and that I recall from the times we visited family here over the years. But there's so much more I want to do, and this summer—while I'm still on mat leave and my stay-at-home-dad husband is at home—seems like the perfect time to do some of it. I know I'll regret it if we don't.

So I'm going to put it on paper, as it were. Here's my version of a summer bucket list.

2013: The Summer of Exploring

  1. Visit Jasper.
  2. Go to a small-town rodeo.
  3. Take in the Calgary Stampede parade. (Done!)
  4. Chow down on a pancake breakfast.
  5. Visit Dinosaur Provincial Park.
  6. Make the rounds of farmers' markets.
  7. Go to an outdoor Movie in the Park.
  8. Visit Waterton National Park.
  9. See a horse show at Spruce Meadows.
  10. Visit West Edmonton Mall. (It's been a while!)
  11. Explore Cowboy Trail
  12. Go to Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump.
  13. Soak in the hot springs

Have you visited Alberta? What am I missing?

And what's on your list for this summer? Please share — I'd love to hear!
