Families2Families Famine Relief

Dignity in East Africa

This guest post is written by Debra Lefebvre who is a Registered Nurse with a Master of Public Administration degree. She is the mother of four children (16, 15, 13 and 10). She has worked in the fields of nursing administration and first nations health. Currently, she is the Founder and Executive Director of Buy-a-Net Malaria Prevention Group.

Recently, I heard former Irish President, Mary Robinson on the CBC Radio show, "As it Happens". She was in the famine zone of East Africa and she was quite emotional when she quoted Article One of the Human Rights Declaration, where it is written that all people are born with rights and dignity. She whispered that there was no dignity for a mother or father who had to watch their child die from starvation. She is so right!

Her words stayed with me. I couldn't get the image out of my mind. I struggled with the insanity of the situation. As a result, "Families2Families" Famine Relief Effort was born.

I am calling on all yummy mummy's and their families to help. Where I live in Kingston, ON, families are organizing a car wash and bake sale on July 30th. All proceeds will go to CARE Canada. CARE is currently on the ground in East Africa.

You may make a donation to CARE or organize your own event. For more information, please visit this website or our Facebook Page.

Whatever or however you decide to help, please designate your support to the "Families2Families" Famine Relief Effort.

Thank you to all my "yummy" sisters. We just made this 'happy place' a little bit happier because we will fill many bellies in East Africa. We will help restore dignity to families.
