Sad news rocked Hollywood over the weekend. Fast and Furious franchise actor Paul Walker was killed in a car accident. The brutal irony of his involvement in a high-speed crash led many on social media to initially suspect that news of his death was a hoax until it was later confirmed by his publicist. Twitter has since been flooded with condolences from celebrities and fans alike.
According to an article in Today, The 40-year-old star rode in a friend's red Porsche on his way back from a fundraiser in support of Reach Out Worldwide (ROWW), a first-response charity he set up in 2010 after the devastation in Haiti. ROWW reaches out to help disaster victims, including those affected by the recent typhoon in the Philippines.
“I’m a doer, and whether it was the tsunami in Sri Lanka or the earthquake in Indonesia, I was always saying, I should be there; I should be helping out," wrote Walker on ROWW's site.
"We’re only on the Earth for a short period of time. I want to take my success and parlay it into something bigger and better. As a father, my hope and goal is to help create a sustainable organization that will endure for the benefit of future generations. You put goodwill out there, it’s amazing what can be accomplished."
The world has lost a dad (he had a 15-year-old daughter) and a compassionate soul in Paul Walker. Rest in peace...
