Cameron Diaz On Why She Doesn't Have Kids

I was never drawn to being a mother

Hard to believe that Cameron Diaz has been dazzling the silver screen for 20 years now. In an interview in the latest issue of Esquire, Diaz dishes on why she never got married and had kids like so many of her contemporaries.

According to an article in Pop Sugar, the 42-year-old actress, whose latest movie is Sex Tape, isn't looking over her shoulder pining for what never was.

"It's so much more work to have children," said Diaz. "To have lives besides your own that you are responsible for—I didn't take that on. That did make things easier for me. A baby—that's all day, every day for eighteen years. Not having a baby might really make things easier, but that doesn't make it an easy decision."

While I've never been a huge fan of Diaz's work (I actually prefer Jennifer Aniston in comedies), she's refreshingly straight-talking and seems to know her own mind. And that applies whether she's talking about motherhood or what it's like to be over forty.

"I like protecting people, but I was never drawn to being a mother," admits Diaz in the Esquire interview. "I have it much easier than any of them. That's just what it is. Doesn't mean life isn't sometimes hard. I'm just what I am. I work on what I am. Right now, I think, things are good for me. I've done a lot. And I don't care anymore."

What do you make of Diaz's comments? Are motherhood and marriage not suited to everyone?

Oddly, Cameron Diaz scored the lead role in a comedy about what it's like to be pregnant.
