Top 10 Cookie Recipes That Pair Perfectly With Milk

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

Does this ever happen to you? The kids are finally in bed and surprisingly they are all asleep, the kitchen has been cleaned by some sort of kitchen fairy miracle, and there is nothing on your to-do list that can’t wait until tomorrow. So you sit on the couch, turn on the tv and get ready for a quiet evening that consists of you and your favourite shows. Except you want something...you need something...you’re craving something sweet or maybe salty but you just can’t put your finger on what.

So how do you decide? Well, there’s a game for that!

Walmart and The Strategic Milk Alliance have partnered to bring us the Mindset Predictor — a fun way to help you decide what you’re craving when you just can’t decide on your own.

Why milk? Because whether you’re craving pizza or a sandwich, peanut butter or chocolate cake, it all goes perfectly with a glass of milk.

I almost always have trouble deciding what I’m craving, so when I had one of the nights like the one above, (except I left my dishes “soaking” and ignored my to-do list) I played the game and here were my results:

Cookies, of course! But not just any old cookie, the yummy, homemade kind. So if you’re like me and are craving cookies (go play the game and see!), here’s my list of the Top 10 Cookie Recipes That Pair Perfectly With Milk including an easy recipe for my family’s FAVOURITE Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies.

1. Disney Frozen Sven Cookies

These cookies are a new favourite in my house and if you also have a Frozen-frenzied child living in your house, you know why!

2. Cake Batter Cookie Bars

My kids love these go-to cookies when I forget to buy “treats” for their school lunches. I always keep a box of cake batter in the pantry and these are so easy, I whip them up before school/work.

3. My Grandma’s Whipped Shortbread

What more do you need to know except Grandma + Shortbread = pure deliciousness (and whipped = way easier than rolling and cutting).

4. Oreo Brownie Cake Bars

While this is a bit more like cake, it’s made with chocolate chip cookie batter AND Oreos, so it’s your favourite cookies baked with brownie batter into a yummy cake/cookie combo!

5. Candy Cane Chocolate Truffle Cookies

I make these every single Christmas and they are perfect for cookie exchanges. But my family loves them so much I sometimes make them in the middle of the summer, just without the candy cane topping!

6. Old Fashioned Oatmeal Cookies

These are totally traditional, so there will be no surprises when you make this recipe!

7. Cinnamon Oatmeal Butterscotch Chip Cookies

I though my kids would revolt the first time I made these treats instead of regular Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies but they quickly became part of the lunchbox rotation.

8. Healthier Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

This delicious, wholesome cookie is dietician-approved and made with whole wheat flour!

9. Breakfast Cookies

Another healthy choice! I make these for breakfast for my kids and they think I’m the best mom ever. I love that they love them because I know that there are lots of healthy breakfast foods combined together to make this yummy cookie.

10. Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies (see recipe below)

These are so delicious and a family favourite! I often make them for dessert when we have big family meals instead of something big and heavy.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs

1 cup milk chocolate chips
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

  Pre-heat oven to 375F.

In food processor or blender, blend oatmeal until there are no large flakes left.

In a separate bowl mix together flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder and soda.

Add flour mixture to butter mixture and stir until combined.

Add chocolate chips and stir until combined.

Roll cookies into 1-inch balls and place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper approximately 2-inches apart.

Slow Cooker Strawberry Cobbler Recipe

The Perfect Summer Dessert Recipe

Slow Cooker Strawberry Cobbler Recipe

Slow Cooker Strawberry Cobbler Recipe

When I think of the slow cooker, I don't often think of dessert, but when it's strawberry season and too hot to bake, this Slow Cooker Strawberry Cobbler is the perfect base to your vanilla ice cream.

Simply mix your cake batter ingredients.

Spread onto the bottom of your slow cooker.

Toss your strawberries in sugar, flour, and salt.

Add strawberries to the slow cooker.

Cook with paper towel to soak up excess moisture.

Enjoy with vanilla ice cream or homemade whipped cream!

Ingredients:

For the cake batter

1 egg, lightly beaten
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. canola oil
1 cup flour
2 tbsp. granulated sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

For the strawberries

4 cups whole strawberries, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. lemon juice

Directions:

In large bowl, gently mix your cake ingredients until combined into thick dough-like batter.

Spread onto bottom of slow cooker sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.

In another bowl, mix your strawberry ingredients until combined and toss into slow cooker on top of the cake batter (it doesn't need to be pretty).

Place 2-3 layers of paper towel over top of slow cooker and place lid on top, then cook for approximately 2-3 hours on low until cake is cooked through.

Serve in bowls with vanilla ice cream or homemade whipped cream and enjoy!

Easiest Slow Cooker Roast Chicken Dinner Recipe

The Reason Why I Will Never Roast My Chicken In The Oven Again

Easiest Slow Cooker Roast Chicken Dinner Recipe

This recipe for roast chicken is one of my favourite slow cooker recipes ever and the exact reason why I may never roast a chicken in my oven ever again because it's that yummy.

Just because it's the summer doesn't mean we're any less busy. Okay, we might be a bit less busy, but I'm still working and shuffling the kids from camp to play dates and dance, cheerleading, Taekwondo, and baseball. This means the slow cooker is still my friend, especially in the summer when turning on the oven for hours is just a bad idea.

Simply put potatoes in the bottom of your slow cooker.

Stuff your chicken with lemon and garlic and sprinkle inside and out with steak spice.

Top with fresh rosemary and cook.

Here's what it will look like when it's done.

If you prefer your chicken browned simply transfer to baking sheet.

Baste with cooking liquid (see don't worry about adding any before cooking — there will be tons!)

Broil for 5 minutes.

Enjoy!

Ingredients:

4-5 baking potatoes, quartered length-wise
1 Roasting Chicken
1/2 lemon, sliced
3 cloves garlic, peeled

2 Tbsp. steak spice (I use Club House Montreal Steak Spice)
2 sprigs fresh rosemary (if desired)

Directions:

Place sliced potatoes on bottom of slow cooker sprayed with non-stick spray.

Sprinkle chicken with steak spice inside and out, then place lemon and garlic inside chicken and put chicken on top of potatoes.

My slow cooker automatically turns to "warm" when cooking time is done so I cook the chicken on low for 4 hours then allow it to continue to cook on "warm" for an additional 2 to 4 hours. If your slow cooker doesn't automatically switch to warm, cook on low for 6 hours or until chicken is ENTIRELY cooked through.

When chicken is done cooking, place chicken and potatoes on baking sheet lined with foil, baste with liquid from the slow cooker and broil in the oven for 5 minutes (just enough time to set the table, toss a store-bought salad into a bowl and have the kids wash their hands).

 Serve and enjoy!
