My 35th Birthday Celebration

Shopping in Yorkville

This past weekend, I turned 35. Rather than get upset about turning another year older, I was thankful. Thankful to be 35, and thankful to be celebrating with my entire family: my husband, my children, my parents, and my sister and her family.

I was also so very thankful that we were given the opportunity to stay at the Marriott Bloor Yorkville for the weekend. And not just in any room - in the two-floor Presidential Suite, baby! (My parents were also given a room, and my sister and her family, as well. To say we were very thankful is an understatement.)

When we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly staff, and then once we stepped into our suite I noticed a balloon arrangement, a cake, and a bottle of champagne! I think I said "Oh my GOD! WOW!" a hundred times - it was truly the loveliest surprise, and made my birthday weekend that much more special. That's not all, though. The room itself was stunning, massive, airy, clean, and had huge windows overlooking Yorkville. Upstairs, the children were surprised with a basket of goodies, too - toys, colouring books, bubbles, and yummy snacks. The bathroom on the second floor (yes, there were two!) was incredible. The service was also amazing, and the buffet breakfast? Perfect.

The Marriott Bloor Yorkville is right in the middle of Yorkville, and all its fabulousness. Yorkville happens to be my favourite place in Canada, you know. And yes, it does have something to do with the fact that it is one of the top ten shopping destinations in the world, right up there with Fifth Avenue in New York City and Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles.

Yorkville is "Toronto's most celebrated neighbourhood of style and culture offering a unique blend of designer boutiques, fashionable restaurants, plush hotels and world class galleries... 700 in all."

H&M, Holt Renfew, Chanel, Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Gap, Banana Republic, Club Monaco, Nine West, Aldo, Anthropologie, Hugo Boss, Birks, Hermes, and so many more fine stores are within short walking distance of the Marriott Bloor Yorkville.

There are also many fine restaurants, like Sotto Sotto (my favourite) Il Posto, Sassafraz and Cafe Nervosa, right in the heart of Yorkville, all within walking distance of our hotel, and there is no better place to people watch while you're eating dinner at the fine restaurants.

Of course, since it was my birthday weekend, I did some shopping. I went to Holt Renfew to repair my Chanel sunglasses and got lost in Anthropologie for a few hours, where I basically bought everything I need for fall!  I went shopping with my mom and one of my best friends - we left the men and children in the two-floor suite so they could have their own fun, too!

The hotel is also walking distance to the Royal Ontario Museum, and we enjoyed the visit at the museum very much. My boys can't wait to go back!

As we were leaving the hotel, my boys made me promise we wouldn't stay anywhere else the next time we visit Toronto. I happily agree - the Marriott Bloor Yorkville has it all!
